do you shut your computer down at night or leave it on all the time?

which is better for it

I leave mine on all the time because I heard that when you reboot it's like a shock to the system.

[Labret] 04-04-2002 02:13 PM

on. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I'm the opposite, I like to hear the fan whirring when I go to bed. If I shut down it becomes too quiet for me to sleep :)

[Labret] 04-04-2002 02:21 PM

Amen, the sounds of computers humming away puts me right to sleep. Soooo soothing.

Amputate Your Head 04-04-2002 02:23 PM

24-7-365, behind a router and black ice firewall with high-end virus software, assures you of no problems =-)

Naughty 04-04-2002 02:26 PM

I once read your pc might burn a 'something' when it is left on for too long. Is that a ferrytale? Sure looks like it when I read the replies here.

I no nothing about hardware, can you tell?

Gary 04-04-2002 02:40 PM

You can turn a computer off??? Learn something new everyday.

Not like you can turn off a light switch, or God forbid, flush the toilet, either.

XXXPaysiteDesign 04-04-2002 03:15 PM

:thumbsup I had ME, what a fucking nightmare! Win 2K Pro is so much better, but it does hang once in a while, like maybe once or twice a week, which is a hell of a lot better than 3 or 4 times a day!!!

:ak47: Winblows ME

Ever tried working with pre-print images on a system like that?
300dpi + k6-2 don't mix =\

Za Ha 04-04-2002 05:45 PM

I put tabs together for my college for nearly two years on a PPC7500 (that's right, 100mhz buddy). Now that's mind numbing!
Our trusty k6-2 300 is still chugging away beside me, running photoshop 6 and dreamweaver 4 all the while I hear it mumbling "I think I can, I think I can."

DigitalPimpShit 04-04-2002 10:30 PM

I have one P4 1.6 with 1024 of DDR that stays on 24/7 (cause its usually hosting a Quake III game)
One P4 1.6 that most my designing gets done on, so it is on pretty much 24/7 other than when Cubase decides its time for a re-boot.
And a 266 laptop that I almost never turn on. I heard it is not good to leave laptops on because they don't get the same airflow a tower does.

My :2 cents:
