Reinstalled XP and didn't back up...

Was in a rush and missed one of the most important things on my pc. :Oh crap

Fucking depressed as shit right now. :(

All because of that stupid fucking trojan. I would love to get my hands on that mother fucker that built that nasty bug.

FiReC 01-04-2006 11:29 AM

damn no good, do you know how you got the trojan? is it some new shit out there i need to watch out for?

Lucky Strike 01-04-2006 11:31 AM

I had the same thing and I had to reinstall too.

You'll be able to get at least most of your stuff back by logging in as admin and retaking ownership and permissions on all files and folders under your old account. But, you'll have to reinstall your old programs.

I'd like to get their hands on this bastard too. They've wasted a week of my time, not to mention the other hundred thousand people plus they've done this to.

ServerGenius 01-04-2006 11:31 AM

There's a great piece of software with which you can make snapshots of your
hdd at any given time and burn it to disk. When something bad happens you
can just restore that snapshot. No reinstall of the OS, no restore of data, just
BAM! all done at once.

I forgot the name....I'll dig it up a bit later for ya

HorseShit 01-04-2006 11:36 AM

everyone should invest in external hard drives.. just picked up another seagate one myself.. USB 2.0 so fast as fuck also.. not to mention I can quickly swap files between my desktop and laptop and bring it anywhere, etc..

I keep a 300 gig external drive to back up my data.. and have had the trojan problem a short time ago as well. Its shitty when someone thinks when creating it that it was going to be a good idea

Pilforgod 01-04-2006 11:40 AM

..

I got that trojan 4 days ago..didn't reinstall either =) I spent 10 hours using about 15 different programs to clean everything out and now my comp is clean as it ever was.

www.webroot.com = spysweeper one of the best
http://www.ewido.net/en/ = another great one
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html (HackThis) = should be required on every comp
the new microsoft spysweeper works nice also.

If you get files you can't delete becaus they are in use, get a program called "Unlocker". With that installed you can delete anything.

If you didn't get hit you should go here ASAP and install the quick patch fix that will block it..and of course use firefox unlike my idiot self =)

I went out and bought at external yesterday and backed everything up to it, so I thought. I had a file in one of my program folders and this it did not save to the external. What a piece of work.

wedouglas 01-04-2006 11:44 AM

What was the file? sentimental or business related?

Herb Kornfield 01-04-2006 11:52 AM

System restore and also a nice cleaning seems to have worked here.

rip raster 01-04-2006 11:52 AM

dude if it makes you feel any better I am slightly constipated :Oh crap

mardigras 01-04-2006 11:55 AM

If it was very important businesswise it should have been burned to disc right after creation. Sorry, I know that doesn't make you feel any better :(

Ok here's the program ya'll should get:

http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoff...t10/index.html

Ghost 10.0 by Symantec

Key Features

* Backs up everything on your computer - digital music, photos, financial documents, applications, settings, operating system, etc. - in one easy step.
* Recovers your system and data even when you can't restart your operating system.
* Makes incremental backups to maximize space and save time.
* Makes backups on the fly, without restarting your system.
* Backs up to almost any media, including CDR/RW and DVD+-R/RW drives, USB and FireWire® (IEEE 1394) devices, and Iomega® Zip® and Jaz® drives.

New Features

* Automatically creates an initial backup schedule based on your computer's configuration.
* Automatically detects storage devices, analyzes your system, and offers "best practice" backup advice during installation.
* Automatically monitors and optimizes backup disk space.
* Triggers backups on key events, like new program installations or user logins.
* Creates new backups on demand with One Button "Back Up Now".
* Encrypts backups to help keep them secure.
* Task-based interface simplifies management and monitoring.
* Displays all scheduled backups - plus the degree of backup protection for each drive on your computer - in one convenient view.
* One-step setup wizard makes installation and configuration quick and easy.
* Begins backing up to Maxtor external drives by simply pressing the Maxtor OneTouch? button.

You can thank me later :thumbsup
