What would you rather start today: a small paysite or a premium AVS site?
If you had the content, design ready and servers, what would you rather start a small paysite with a few affiliates (probably using CCBill) or a premium AVS site, and work on your member database yourself.
Both cases you'd update 2 times a week. Let me know why you choose your answer too, and which AVS would you recommend if you suggest AVSs. |
nice thread bump for answer..

But this IS a nice thread. :) |
I DID start a small paysite 1 year ago! Can't say I regret!
|
We started our first paysite on an AVS.
Adult Bouncer Sweet Dominqiue Making it's own paysite was the smartest thing we could ever do.... we built a loyal affilate webmaster following to open more paysites. |
Paysite for sure... AVS is sooo dead.

I thought AVS was way dead, is it still a moneymaker?

It's 2006... time to get independent, not more dependent.

I would choose small paysite.

I would make a small paysite...Why? Maybe the recurring will be less then on a huge AVS. However, YOU are in control...Upsells, popups, exits, legit mails to current/expired members etc...

you can get more partners to push your paysite if its good

IMHO, I would recommend going with a small paysite. The problem with many AVS sites these days is that they are too watered down and many of them look the same to the surfer (in other words, same content different design). It also depends on which AVS you choose, but what happens if a surfer visits your (AVS) site and notices that he/she "will also get access to many other great sites" so they decide to go and check out the other sites (to see what else is being offered before joining), decides "yeah, this is great" and signs up at whatever other AVS site they happen to be browsing at the time (not yours). Surfers don't know or care about who gets credit for what. On the other hand, if you wanted later to be able to sign up affiliates, I would recommend going AVS. The reason I say this is because (personally) I hate clicking on a "Webmasters" (Affiliate) link and seeing the CCBill affiliate signup; because it usually means that there will be NO promo content or materials of any kind, which can be a huge pain in the ass. Most times that I see that I just forget it and move on. If you do end up going through an AVS though, I would highly recommend going through one of the better ones like AdultBouncer or DeluxePass.
Also, keep in mind that since many AVS's have a fairly large member base, it is therefor easier for a pass cracker to bruteforce and find working user/pass combos. So if a surfer knows where to look, they can get a free pass to your AVS site without having to pay for it. Just my .02 |

Looks like a small paysite is the obvious winner. An AVS has the advantage of being easier though, and you could use it as a testing or beta phase for your paysite. Tweak it and improve it until you're satisfied with the process and the conversions are looking good, and then switch it or mirror it over to your own new paysite.

Where can one find a faq or a down and dirty info on the avs biz?
|
simply for me paysite, because my knowledge of avs is poor

I am hoping to do both. I have a lot of premium AVS sites in niches that I would like to take forward and make into small paysites. Sort of like using AVS as my sandbox for a niche until I have it fully understood. As soon as they actually send me my British passport so I qualify for CCBill EU I am going to start the small paysites.

Bump for me.

I'm at this point too where Ive amassed a ton of content over the years and debating the paysite vs premium avs decision |

I know affiliates that make over 20k a month submitting avs sites.. They still sell, the people think they are dead is because it got so much easier making paysites, that people stopped making avs sites.. Avs = paysites, with more content for the surfer.. |

i promote www.onlygonzo.com from deluxepass, it does great for me. and the guy that runs is making good coin i am sure.

A small paysite in a underexposed, or micro niche fo' shizzle my nizzle. The more specialized, the better. Although I would update a min. of 3 times a week. But that's just me.
:2 cents: |

My amateur site started as a ProAdult Quantum site. I did have affiliates, too.
I think I will probably repeat if I ever start another paysite, because using an AVS gives you a safety net in which to learn, like Sarah said. If bandwidth goes crazy high, PA covers it; I'm on their free host. Billing is covered, and I can get affiliates' help promoting, too. Plus I have all the other AVS sites' and content to encourage browsers to join. |
Last time bump for today....
|
While we're at it... does any of the big AVS networks out there offer epass payouts or only check?
|
I'd say one of the new video style AVSs (where the AVS owns the content) is quite a different proposition to an older style premium AVS site (where the webmaster owns the content) or a paysite.
