Is George Bush a fraud or is it me ?

Is it me or is George Bush a fraud or is it me ? Seems like he does things that are helping his friend and not the people who elected him into office.
He will probably go down as the biggest asshole in American History holding the executive office.

He's too stupid to be a fraud, no one can fake that much stupidity.

kane 04-04-2007 03:46 PM

Every president does this type of stuff. I just watched the movie 'Man of the Year' last night and there is a great line in it that says something like, "if people give you 200 million to spend on your campaign, you know they are going to want something in return if you win."

the one thing that has happened to Bush is that he has appointed people into areas that are not just harmless jobs, like that guy he made the head of FEMA who had never done any job like that before. I'm sure other's have done that, but it really came back and bit him in the ass this time. He tried to do it again when when nominated Harriet Meyers for the supreme court and his own party laid the smack down on him.

Splum 04-04-2007 03:48 PM

Ronald Reagan(two terms) 243 recess appointments
George H.W. Bush 77 recess appointments
Bill Clinton(two terms) 140 recess appointments
George W. Bush 106 recess appointments

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recess_appointment

_Richard_ 04-04-2007 03:53 PM

explain how this works?

how does someone get denied by senate, then appointed during this 'recess' appointment?

seems rather odd

I wish you people would understand that Politicians are not your friends. By the time anybody reaches the highest office in the land, they're almost wholey owing to the people that got them there and not the good of the nation its' self. Basically, the entire system is fundamentally flawed.

As opposed to the Costa Rican system of outright openly bribing officials. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

I'm Canadian, you jack ass. The Canadian political system also suffers from the same flaws yours does. If you're too stupid to see that a two party system based almost completely on money is not in the best interests of the people, then you're really too stupid to argue with the likes of me.

If I understand it correctly what happens is that the president can appoint someone to a position if the senate is in recces, but the appointment is only a temporary appointment. He did the same with John Bolton when he appointed him as ambassador to the UN.

The person that was put into the position has to be approved by the senate by the end of the next session or they are removed from the position and it becomes vacant again.

It's a fairly common thing that tend to happen for one of two reasons. Either the poistion becomes vacant while the senate isn't in session so they fill the spot and get them approved later, or they do it because they know the person is going to have a hard time getting approved by the senate.

correct. A recess appointee has to be approved by the end of the next session or he/she loses the position. In this case it is Jan 20 2009. Basically things like this are done so that this guy can pad his resume and has a thank you for his mud raking during the election. He can put on it that he was the ambassador to Belgium and it will help him get some kick ass, high paying job on a company that wants to be able able to tell its shareholders that they have a former US ambassador on the board.

I was born in Canada.
I am a Canadian citizen.
I am living in Costa Rica, for now.
I am not a Costa Rican citizen.

These Bush lovers think that hating Bush means loving Clinton or being a democrat or a liberal. That's like saying I hate the Green Bay Packer so therfore I'm a Bears fan.
