Ok, who the hell came up with the term, "adult webmaster"!??

I was one, and still am.

No, but seriously - if you think about it, adult webmaster sounds weird and cheesy - especially from the outside.

Anyone know where the term originated? couldn't we come up with something a little cooler!?

RyuLion 08-28-2009 09:20 AM

Adult = Works with Adult Related Material
WebMaster = Internet based Affiliate

Adult + WebMaster = adult webmaster

(I know I didn't answer your question)

I am pretty sure Rick M at thebestporn.com/ YNOT penned the name " Adult Webmaster"
Somewhere around 96 or so.

Back when people were being yelled at by Khan
:-))

I always thought the "web master" part was a little weird sounding to begin with.

I mean, if I was an office manager, would I call myself the "manager master"?

Or if I fixed cars, "car master".

What made this person call themself a master to begin with?

I do throw parties as a promoter, I'm a "party master".

Serge Litehead 08-28-2009 09:43 AM

adult design master - i like that :)

But you could be an office master, a master mechanic or a master promotor.

hahaha - exactly!

Quentin 08-28-2009 09:53 AM

I used to work with a chick that insisted on being called an adult "webmistress"... which to me sounded less like an adult website operator and more like something you'd want to keep secret from your wife.

Relentless 08-28-2009 09:54 AM

I'm glad someone came up with it, because having a "Pornographer$" link at the bottom of every paysite linking to the aff program instead of "Webmaster$" just wouldn't feel as professional. :1orglaugh

Yes you are Darren.. you are a "PARTY MASTER" :pimp

I think the key is that many webmasters got into this business having to know many different aspects of the WEB business.

Some are more niche. Such as a Web Designer or a Web Developer. Someone who has to master many talents and have a wide range of skills get dropped into the title of Webmaster or Master of the Web.

Add in the fact that we are in the adult business then that tacks on the Adult title.

Now we could label ourselves in many ways.

Adult Industry Web Developer
Web Architect of the Adult Realm
Web Administrator for Pornography

All of those are quite a mouthful.

Adult Webmaster just works.

rankscom 08-28-2009 10:00 AM

I did? Those years are too difficult to recall!! lol

I know for sure we didn't coin "webmaster". Who knows if we were the first to use "adult webmaster" at YNOT. If we did, I should be punished for lack of creativity. KB always gives me way too much credit. Especially after all the virtual ass destroying I put on him during the post-work (or sometimes at-work) Quake Arena parties.

Tom_PM 08-28-2009 10:02 AM

I just off-topic never understood the "webmistress" moniker. Webmaster is not gender specific. And mistresses are the ones being cheated with.. tsk tsk.

Now back to our program.....

Dammit Rick, can't you just be an egotistical jackass like the rest of us every once in a while? This humility and honesty thing is really getting old.

:winkwink:

Long time no see/chat, btw. We should rectify that someday soon.

Guess we have to blame the Germans because their mechanics have been automeisters for as long as I know.

Same with brewmeisters.

Cyber Pimp or Adult Traffic Engineer

How about "Porn Geek"?

Relentless 08-28-2009 10:19 AM

If 'adult webmaster' does get changed, I say we go with something more descriptive:

"StickyDreamWeaver" anyone? :1orglaugh

Could have been you Rick.....but I seem to recall Joe H. "discussing" the biz with someone at Orlando in the lobby (when your flight was late). I definitely heard him say something like "You call yourself an adult webmaster.....?"
I think webpower had the term on the signup page for clickcash too.

But, YNOT definitely defined and promoted the term.

seeric 08-28-2009 10:29 AM

i don't know where it came from, but i've never told anyone that i'm an adult webmaster. i think if everyone focused on money and not the adult aspect the industry would be a far more respected place. when asked i tell people the truth. i'm in the credit card business. i sell products on the internet. i don't care if its adult material or coffee or nutraceuticals. porn does nothing for me. never has. never cared that is was sex that i'm selling. its part of what keeps me grounded and mentally sound. well, mentally sound is debatable depending on your perspective, but i'm doin aight!

lol.

INDY500DRIVER 08-28-2009 10:53 AM

I just work for a billing company, i always thought an adult webmaster was this......................... an "adult" who is a "webmaster"

That was my guess too. YNOT.

KRosh 08-28-2009 11:22 AM

Well in this business isn't it the person that owns the domain the one that is credited with coining the term? :pimp

Mike G, adult star profits, has owned that domain since 1997 so i give him credit for it :thumbsup

Loch 08-28-2009 11:25 AM

Lets have a look at this one shall we, havent read the thread so might be repeating someone else.

Im thinking the guy who came up with the term wanted to make sure it reflected the profession in which is was to be used
Adult= Grown up, adult, independant
Webmaster= Master of what he does on the web (i suppose, right?)

Im thinking we should have our own for porn :)
Maybe: Cant webmaster
or: Hiding webmaster
or: Teen webmaster

starpimps 08-28-2009 11:30 AM

i tell people i am a smut peddler

Could have been worse I suppose -- they could have gone in another direction and named you "El Centro Mike."
