US finds $1 trillion in mineral reserves in Afghanistan

The United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, far beyond any previously known reserves and enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself, according to senior American government officials.

The previously unknown deposits ? including huge veins of iron, copper, cobalt, gold and critical industrial metals like lithium ? are so big and include so many minerals that are essential to modern industry that Afghanistan could eventually be transformed into one of the most important mining centers in the world, the United States officials believe.

Translation : Afghans are going to be raped by the greedy west until the end of time now.

fatfoo 06-13-2010 09:02 PM

I sold a small research text in June 2010 describing mining and oil mining in Australia. Mining is dangerous business. The premises are dangerous - underground and with poor air quality. Dozens of people were killed in Australian mining accidents. If you need business texts and porn texts, message me on icq:396815963. I can write them for you. Payment can be made by paypal or epassporte.

I also read that keeping the resources you have is more important than finding new resources. The BP oil spill is sure a huge loss for the economy.

Jon Oso 06-13-2010 09:05 PM

Yup, looks like we'll be fighting a war there for a long time in order to "regain stability" meanwhile a few people will be getting very, very rich.

EliteWebmaster 06-13-2010 09:10 PM

Well, we need that shipped back to us for restitution for 9/11 and the trillions we spent fighting the war down there. Not to mention the countless of american lives lost fighting over there :(

Spunky 06-13-2010 09:15 PM

So the US can claim it and prosper from it while in another country?

Sure, just like we took all of the oil out of Iraq. And yet still people have no clue who the top two oil importers to the US are.

thx for the link, well-written article that shows afghanistan has more to worry about than the west raping them. the china angle and bribe of the minister of mining shows that.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 06-13-2010 09:49 PM

Thank god America has got their fingers all up in that honey already! And the occupation continues. :1orglaugh

What exactly were they doing that they suddenly found all these mineral deposits anyways, hrmmm? Looking out for the best interests of the Afghan people I'm sure. :1orglaugh

Restitution? Oh you still believe that Afganistan had something to do with 9/11? LOL

So can our military stop guarding the poppy fields now and come home?

Canada and Saudi Arabia last I heard. Iraq is number 7-8, still a pretty solid contributor of oil into the US.

Not saying that the US or it's businessmen are going to import the trillion dollars worth of minerals from Afghanistan but you know someone is going to be making money off of it one way or another.

Marcus Aurelius 06-14-2010 02:55 AM

"The previously unknown deposits"

Mother fucking bullshit. It all makes sense now.

I really pity the fools serving in the military. People have been dying for centuries to secure profit and matériel for private interests. It has fuck-all to do with freedom, democracy and hearts or minds. It has everything to do with a privileged few reaping the rewards for countless thousands paying with their lives. Ever notice how their own kids are never in the military? Your son has to go and die with his guts shot or blown all over some fucking sand dune or jungle while his son goes snowboarding in Switzerland.

They make me fucking sick.

There is no question whether this war has been fought for special interests or not.
It wasn't lithium thought.

Davy 06-14-2010 03:53 AM

How is this news? Didn't you know that? Afghanistan is also home of the largest remaining oil field in the world.
The reasons why the US invaded Afghanistan have always been very obvious. Germany and other countries have their hands in the game for the same reasons.

Dirty Dane 06-14-2010 04:11 AM

Give it to the drug farmers.

Paul Markham 06-14-2010 04:12 AM

It could be used to make Afghanistan a modern country that leaves terrorism behind. Well fed, clothed working people are not those who want to change the system.

Doubt if the fat cats and Taliban will allow it though. Both get more out of strife and poverty.

goodboi 06-14-2010 04:15 AM

Calling opium a mineral deposit is quite funny :)

I pray that one day somebody will bomb square mile in London.

The IRA already did, several times. But everyone knows terrorism didn't exist before 9/11 so I suppose it doesn't count.

jerryb 06-14-2010 04:55 AM

Plain and simple. Wars now, and always have been, an avenue for people to make tons of money. If it isn't mineral deposits it's contracts to make bombs, bullets, tanks, subs, ships, rockets --- and, you can add to the list.

Wars make millionaires and politicians richer. Very sad but true.

For over 20 years. Supported by many 1,000th removed generation us-paddys too who thought it was a jolly jape.

Terrorism isn't so funny now is it, Johnny-Appleseed.

crazytrini85 06-14-2010 05:30 AM

Jesus Christ you people are stupid. There were reports of this YEARS ago from troops who returned home and quit the military. It never was about liberating the Afghans, seeking Osama or anything else. This has been about MONEY every step of the way.

Get your google on and find it yourself. This is old news. I think a few GFYers were LOLd at for saying it.

Thing is many other country went to aid the US in this stupid war but you won't see them get any cut from what US will take from the afghans...

dyna mo 06-14-2010 07:01 AM

it appears i'm the only one that read the article.

milambur 06-14-2010 07:32 AM

Now all they have to do is figure out how to cut the talibans in on the wealth and the war will end the second they sign the papers.

Yeah, we've improved the quality of life for many Afghans by killing them and
running them from their homes to avoid the fighting.

The reason you think the way you do is because you believe that owning material
junk like cellphones, fancy cars and computers determines how good a life is.
Which pretty much means to me that you have no life.

If you think your life is over when you go flat broke then you had no life to
begin with.

Afghans had a life before the war started; it's just that you have no appreciation
for what their life is because it's just not rich enough for you.

Further, the Afghan life has been shaped by repeated wars from invaders
that have kept the country from ever getting a foot hold on anything else
except finding new leaders and creating new governments.

Get the fuck out of their land for 100 years and maybe they can do something
themselves.

That was my very first thought when I read the headline. :2 cents:

_Richard_ 06-14-2010 08:42 AM

also not new

ADL Colin 06-14-2010 10:35 AM

Last month, during an event at at Washington's U.S. Institute of Peace with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Karzai described the value of Afghanistan's mineral resources as being between "$1 to $3 billion."

Aides off-stage corrected him, saying the value was in trillions, not billions. "Yeah, 3 billion," said Karzai, "No, no, 3 trillion," corrected an aide. Laughing, Karzai replied, "Trillion! Yeah, $3 trillion. Trillion, sorry. That's what I meant. Trillion, trillion, yeah. $1 to $3 trillion."

cwd 06-14-2010 12:01 PM

This is not new. Did anyone read the article?

The Soviets knew about mineral resources in the 80's. The US has had info since at least 2004 and have been doing advanced searches since 2006 and 2007.

and, China is already there...
"China's top integrated copper producer, Jiangxi Copper Co (0358.HK), and China Metallurgical Group Corp, are going ahead with exploration of the vast Aynak Copper Mine, south of Kabul, after they won the contract to develop it last year [2008]."

Dude you are out of control. You are unable to make a single relevant post. Ever.

Just because a thread contains a word doesnt mean we need to hear as little substory from you on that word.

I know you probbaly think you are funny but you are really shooting yourself in the foot if you wanted to pick up work here.
