cthulhu_waves 06-28-2010 05:54 AM

Where are you staying? Were you able to get those free DIY walking tour brochures in the airport. They're really the best way for you to go around the city. The Night Market is nice these days. Come morning, go to the museum near the sea. It is very nice and quiet there.

Oh, when an Indian guy approaches you with this religious talk, don't bother talking to him. The morons will hustle you for US Dollars. They don't accept local currency. When you see them coming, just avert your eyes and stay the hell away. THey can be fucking persistent.

Someone 'splain me.... why is HK so awesome, what is there to do there, and why should I want to go? I thought HK was just all hookers and sushi.

It's a cultural mashup, an economic force, and a totally intense experience.
Under British control for 100 years, China has been smart enough to keep their hands off HK - resulting in a very open, forward moving country.

What do I like about Hong Kong? It's a country of contrasts. You can go from spending $2 for a meal you can't finish to eating in restraunts so snobby you'd never be able to afford a starter.

You can be diamond shopping on Nathan road in one moment, and trawling the alleys of Mong Kok next, and finish up bobbing over Victoria Harbour on the Star Ferry (a hong kong insitution..)

The best part of Hong Kong? It's 60% national park, a fact that escapes almost everyone. Whenever the hustle gets too much, you can take any number of hikes or walks and totally disappear - you'll be in mountains, hidden beachs and coves, and won't see anyone.

Porko 06-28-2010 09:05 AM

Interesting.... how is the language barrier there? Is there a good percentage that speaks English?

CurrentlySober 06-28-2010 09:10 AM

Nice. I was lat there in 77...
On the skyline, looking from Kowloon, you'll see a small to medium sized building with round windows... When I was there that was the HIGHEST Building on the skyline !

Looking at pics now... Its TINY lol

I watched a travel report about hong kong, they have clubs where you need to pay 2000$ monthly membership if you want to get it.Or if you want rent helicopter to reach hotel from airport it cost 3000$.

It was a british colony for 100 years, and it's a hub town - you do not need to speak one single word of cantonese or mandarin. Everyone speaks english.

I've just been to Shanghai, Manila, and Hong Kong in last couple weeks ... I have yet to have any GOOD SUSHI.
WTF is up. Where the fuck can I get some good sushi that AT LEAST matches the places in L.A.??

I just went to some place that was recommended to me by someone here and it was retardedly bad.
I was expecting BETTER THAN LA sushi but nope ...

BTW, im sitting in my room in my chair facing my window which is right on the bay in Kowloon facing HK island.
Its 1:07AM here now and Im watching boats drive by in the bay and the bright ad-filled skyline of HK island.

Sweet :)

There's excellent sushi in HK if you know where you're going.
There's one just down from Times Square in Causeway bay where you order your tuna / salmon / soft shell crabs by the pound. Sushi rivalled only by Japan :)

WilliamLin 06-28-2010 10:12 AM

Go to LanWaiFong and enjoy clubbing

LeRoy 06-28-2010 10:14 AM

Looks like you're having a lot of fun!

dillonaire 06-28-2010 10:23 AM

LOVE THE HK. Most people speak english. women are smoking hot. nightlife goes nonstop. If you get a chance check out the W hotel. it has the highest pool in the city (on the roof of the 72nd floor!). The view from the infinity pool is amazing.
