IllTestYourGirls 10-27-2010 04:20 PM

Seems to be where they dump the dead... (and bathe and drink...)

CaptainHowdy 10-27-2010 04:28 PM

I was thinking maybe it was a ritual? Or is there nowhere else to dump them?

I did not click the link, so making a presumption that the river is the Ganges, which is a holy place to Hindu, and they try to bathe in it at least once in their lives.

They are also into cremation, and they cremate the bodies on the river. Unfortunately, wood is not easy to find and can get expensive. Couple that with the fact that the people are poor and you end up with partially cremated bodies in the river.

I would not recommend fishing there.

life and death exist side by side and they don't suffer from the dualistic disconnect of the divided west. don't judge what you don't understand.

Martin 10-27-2010 04:41 PM

Thats just fucking gross.

That's the way they roll in India

Blog comments are fucking hilarious:

英语绵绵 (on Tianya) & 七夜 (on LiuLiu):

All this is easy to fix, just use violence. China uses the hukou system to keep the poor population from settling in cities, and then uses chengguan to beat the rabble to death. The cities will then look very nice.

bjwh50: (responding to above comment)

Actually, this is exactly how America does it, using violence to beat the Indians [Native Americans] to death, pushing the Asian, African, and poor out into the country, running the poor white people into the surrounding outskirts of the cities. America’s police are even more terrible than China’s chengguan. If you’re within two meters of a police officer, you have to raise your hands, otherwise American police have the right to shoot you dead.

this is just word speak. i don't feel any 'dualistic disconnect' for not seeing dead bodies in the street.

Gnarly as those images may be now, according the Economist.Com, India stands a good chance of becoming a middleclass/developed country by 2050. Keep in mind--prior to the 1820s China and India have ALWAYS BEEN the world's wealthiest countries.

Damn. Should never have clicked the link. Fascinatingly disgusting.

Cyndalie 10-28-2010 06:26 AM

Yucky :(

anexsia 10-28-2010 06:35 AM

Wouldn't they get really sick or catch a crapload of diseases and other health problems from bathing and brushing teeth in water that has floating corpses? I just can't imagine doing that and not getting very sick...unless your body builds up a tolerance? but still...

Mr Wade managed to snare one goonch which weighed 161lb and was nearly 6ft long - the biggest of its species ever caught.

He said: "If that got hold of you, there would be no getting away."

The goonch is thought to be responsible for the disappearance of an 18-year-old Nepali last year, who was dragged under the water by a creature described as a "elongated pig".

Two earlier mysterious river deaths are also considered to be the work of the killer fish.

Years ago an uncle of mine came upon some Indian beer that said it was made with water from the Ganges river! I don't think he drank it, but it was funny. :1orglaugh

LOL. Hey I'll be the first to admit that we have tons of problems in the United States and there are a lot of things I am unhappy about... but... LOL. I can't stop laughing.

If anything, the black population is pushed into the inner cities because it's cheap shit housing. I've never heard of pushing Asians into the country... LOL... Asians are typically urban. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen an Asian in the country. Black, yes, Mexican, yes, white, yes, Asian, no. And beating the Native Americans to death? Okay, maybe 150 years ago.
