Antimatter - the real threat to humanity.
Now it has become a reality.
The reaction of 1 kg of antimatter with 1 kg of matter would produce 1.8×1017 J (180 petajoules) of energy, or the rough equivalent of 43 megatons of TNT. For comparison, Tsar Bomb, the largest nuclear weapon ever detonated, reacted an estimated yield of 50 megatons, which required the use of tens of kilograms[citation needed] of fissile material (Uranium/Plutonium) (hundreds for the full-yield 100 megaton design), and two tons of lithium deuteride (fusion fuel). |
The real threat to humanity is humanity itself with its self-destructive nature.

Pfff... How can antimatter be a problem? We'd all probably just disappear very quickly.
I find radioactive fallout far more terrifying. |
Iran is salivating

180 petajoules, nice! How much energy does it take to create 1kg of antimatter?

It has always been a reality in the sense that you are talking about it, theoretically. But 1kg of antimatter is a long time away, they haven't been able to keep any amount of it trapped until just recently when they trapped 38 atoms of it.

it's better to burn out than fade away. :2 cents:

if it's over some day i want it to be quick and painless ;)

Why not just announce that a 1200 foot long squid is the greatest threat to humanity? Or 6000 50 foot tall hamsters? |
Also try to avoid dangers like black holes that suck everything in and nothing ever comes out.

Not only are you afraid of nothing, but your math is way off.

Nice link, Zelda.

I'm cool with that...

They only made like 30 atoms of the stuff. It's gonna take a while to build a milligram, never mind a kilo.
Worry about the nukes, they'll vaporize you just as nicely. |
matter means its important and anti-matter means its not important , so don't worry about it. ;)
|
If we could create it in small amounts and use it in secure environment, we could solve worlds' energy problems so we shouldn't rely on fossil fuels or nuclear power. I think it's well worth the risk.
|
Antimatter doesn't matter.
|
I've also read that another issue is that it takes more energy to make it than it produces.

the number one threat to the internet will always be fletch xxx. :2 cents:
