Qatar (/ˈkɑːtɑr/ ( listen) or /kəˈtɑr/ ( listen), kə-TAR;[4][5]; Arabic: قطر [ˈqɑtˤɑr]; local pronunciation: [ɡitˤar][6]), also known as the State of Qatar or locally Dawlat Qaṭar, is an Arab country, known officially as an emirate, in the Middle East, occupying the small Qatar Peninsula on the northeasterly coast of the much larger Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south; otherwise, the Persian Gulf surrounds the state. A strait of the Persian Gulf separates Qatar from the nearby island nation of Bahrain. Qatar is an oil- and gas-rich nation, with the third largest gas reserves,[7] and the first[8] or second[9] highest GDP per capita in the world. An absolute monarchy, Qatar has been ruled by the al-Thani family since the mid-19th century and has since transformed itself from a British protectorate noted mainly for pearling into an independent state with significant oil and natural gas revenues.
During the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Qatari economy was crippled by a continuous siphoning off of petroleum revenues by the Emir, who had ruled the country since 1972. His son, the current Amir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, overthrew him in a bloodless coup in 1995. In 2001, Qatar resolved its longstanding border disputes with both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Next January, Qatar will host the 2011 AFC Asian Cup (Asian Football Confederation) with the final fixture being held at Khalifa International Stadium, and will also host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. |

i guess they have enough oil to burn for that amount of electricity they will need for that |
why do they pick these shitty countries for the world cup?
Its going to be a disaster. Another World Cup played at walking pace due to 100 degree heat and 100% humidity |

Do qatar even have a football team? :1orglaugh |
the people who made these decisions are very rich now
|
Who cares? The world ends in 2012 anyway. Remember?
|
as host nation, don't they get an automatic qualification for their team? cause if so, they got some work to do on that...
|
Money money money money

A country with barely 840k people, and maybe 2 or 3 cities gets to organize the World Cup. How do they plan on housing fans and players? Are they going to air conditioned the entire country? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I hate world cups in these kind of countries where nobody know or understand a shit about football...
So many nations would fill stadiums with so much passion! Would this people drink alcohol to the visitors? It would be soooo boring a would cup with no alcohol and hot chicks wearing miniskirts... |
The stadiums are gonna be insane!

they say they are going to spend 4 billion on stadiums, 40 billion on infrastructure.
so I guess that makes paying Zidane 15 million look like nothing... Like many other famous names, Zidane was paid exorbitantly to support Qatar's bid. He appeared at matches and even starred in a very successful commercial for the cause. According to The New Republic, his deal guaranteed him $3 million regardless of the bid's success and a whopping $15 million if Qatar got the event. Well, they got it, so now Zidane gets his $15 million. http://resources1.news.com.au/images...ine-zidane.jpg http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/blog/...urn=sow-291361 |
its all about the contrustion business...
Blatter wants his friends constructions companies to make a big business in russia and quatar where they need to build a lot of new stadiums.. in russia only 3 stadiums are ready... 11 will be made.. Same as they did in south africa... if they did this in australia or USA or spain, they could not make 2000 million dollars of profit... also the oil dollars is a big thing. . |
What about alchohol and hookers? What are fans going to be able to enjoy when the game is over?
|
