Google + Bing Confirm that Twitter/Facebook Influence SEO

As of yesterday, both Bing and Google have confirmed (via an excellent interview by Danny Sullivan) that links shared through Twitter and Facebook have a direct impact on rankings (in addition to the positive second-order effects they may have on the link graph). This has long been suspected by SEOs (in fact, many of us posited it was happening as of November of last year following Google + Bing's announcements of partnerships with Twitter), but getting this official confirmation is a substantive step forward.

Very interesting find.

worth a read, but seems like those with social media "author authority" are as usual trying to make the google algo bend to their egos and preconceptions when the reality is that it seems to be a very vague and small factor at this point, although one that will probably increase in the future.

So the sea of Twitter spam is warranted for SEO purposes. Great. :/

here we go again, so facebook and twitter will be new target of the seo experts and wanna be seo experts. Be ready for shitloads of garbage on them

Strange considering twitter format all links as no follow.

So you still believe in no follow, huh?

How cute.

One would be smart to assume that google knows all to start with. This is why buying links is not the best thing in the world to do, even if you think that you did it covertly.

nofollow doesnt count anymore

There is a difference between following a link for pagerank calculations and acknowledging a link as a signal of credibility

lol dude look at any competitive adult keyword 75% of their links are bought. and people report them all the time and nothing happens.

same with mainstream, it's all about the buy.

Ask pornhub, youporn, xvideos, etc. about your theory.

Exactly.. Don't get why people still don't understand that... And since google doesn't give PR as much weight as it used to, a nofollow link is just as valuable... In fact, you should be doing a mix of follow and no follow links to make it look like your site has "natural" linking.

its such a surprising revelation that some of the largest most trusted sites on the internet affect your rankings in a positive way.

if you understood seo some of that would be surprising. not what you learned running your site through a free script tool.

Yes so far i didn't seen a single penalized adult site beacuse of buying hard links.
I'v seen mainstream but those was mostly very popular sites penalized and they had only pr penalized, not their serps i think. After all google cant prove did you bought hardlinks or someone put hardlinks for fun.
