TSA Told To Tell Children That Groping Them Is A Game... Horrifying Sex Abuse Experts

Quote:

Apparently TSA agents are being told that one way to handle the new groping pat downs for children is to try to make it out to be some sort of "game." This is apparently horrifying some sex abuse experts who point out that a common tactic in abuse cases is to tell the kids that they're just "playing a game." The TSA has said that the newer patdowns will not apply to children under 12, but the rules have been somewhat unclear -- leading to the statement from a TSA director, James Marchand:

"You try to make it as best you can for that child to come through. If you can come up with some kind of a game to play with a child, it makes it a lot easier."

He also said that the idea of making it a game would become a part of the TSA's training. Ken Wooden, who runs an organization to try to stop sex abuse of children was not pleased:

"How can experts working at the TSA be so incredibly misinformed and misguided to suggest that full body pat downs for children be portrayed as a game?" Wooden asked in an email. "To do so is completely contrary to what we in the sexual abuse prevention field have been trying to accomplish for the past thirty years."

While I agree with everyone that this line of thinking with kids in mind is amazingly stupid and I think that TSA is going overboard with the scanning/groping, is this really a violation of freedoms?

Let me play devil's advocate for a second. Flying is not a right. Flying is a privilege and it is something you choose to do voluntarily. By now we all know about the frisking so you now know that if you choose to fly, you are also agreeing to get the pat down on the scanner. Your rights are not being taken away from you. You are volunteering to give them up.

mikesinner 12-05-2010 03:17 AM

You know.. sometimes I'm ashamed to be an American... how big an idiot can you really be?

Then again, I won't even bother because trying to explain that the "terrorists" have already won by instilling widespread fear into all of you dumb ass people would be a waste of time...

As I said, I don't agree with the pat downs nor the scans, I was just playing devil's advocate.

There are a lot of people saying that their rights are being violated here, I just wonder how. They have chosen to put themselves into that position. A violation of rights would be if they came into your house and searched you or if you were walking down the street, or even driving down the street and they stopped you at random and searched you. Here you are getting on a plane and they have decided that in order to keep the plane safe this is the security measure they are going with. If you choose to partake, you are consenting to the search. If people really are as offended as they say they are (and they aren't) they would be all over their congressional rep and senator to do something about this.

Back when I was a kid and went to a lot concerts at this one theater they would pat down everyone that came through the door. They did it because they didn't want you sneaking weapons, booze or any kind of recording devices in. Several years prior to this a guy had a knife on him at a show, got in a fight with another concert goer and stabbed him. The victim died and his parents sued the venue for not providing adequate security and won a very big settlement. So this new security was a result of that. Everyone knew it. They even told you to get their early because they opened the gates a few hours before the show to make sure they got everyone in. Were they violating my rights then? Was the country about to collapse in on itself in a wave of communism because of this?

This concert venue, just like the airlines are now, did this not because the terrorists have won, but because of money. It is the same reason we have seat belt laws. If a terrorist gets on a plane and causes trouble it opens the already struggling airline up to a potentially huge lawsuit. This is their way of trying to prevent that from happening.

No, they are instilling fear into gullible Americans who think that there are terrorists out to kill them...
And seriously.. the whole "it's a privilege not a right" bullshit can be twisted an contorted to fit any scenario.. and has been contorted by the police and military for years.

When was the last time a terrorist brought a bomb on a plane? And seriously, if someone really wanted to get something on a plane to do some bad, they wouldn't have a problem figuring out how to do so.

No, this whole thing is the governments way of instilling fear into dumb ass Americans. And to say that no one has a problem with it, you are completely wrong. The problem is, there aren't enough people.. and that's because the bulk of Americans are complete idiots, gullible morons who believe everything they say on tv.

The government is getting exactly what they want, and that is for you to live in fear, so badly in fact that they can strip away your liberties and rights one by one without you even realizing it.

Air travel IS a privilege. There's no twisting to go on here. If flying were your right, you wouldn't have to pay for it. If you want to fly on their plane, you follow their rules. Don't like it, get on your horse and start hauling ass. You don't have to like it, but that's the way it is. Kane laid out the plain and simple truth of the matter, and if you don't like it, go buy a fucking air plane of your own and your argument will be validated. Nobody is going to grope your balls when you get onto your private jet... :2 cents:

Umm... it's not the airlines rules, nor the airports, nor anyone actually even associated with air travel. It's the government twisting shit around and making shit up so you idiots live in fear for your lives and they can take that much more control over you, strip that much more of your actual freedom and liberty away without you even realizing it because you're too fucking stupid to realize that the only "terrorists" you need to be afraid of are the people running the country.

Keep your blinders on.. it's ok, no really.. You see, the southern half of the country I live in now actually has real terrorists. They actually blow shit up and kill people here... there are real people here that would make those so called terrorists you're afraid of look like little fucking chumps; some of them no older than 10 years old... but you know what? The rest of the country doesn't go around living in fear like complete fucking retards because of it... And you know what else? I have more freedom in this country than I ever had in the US (not that I actually like living here, as this place has it's own share of problems, but one of them ain't stripping away freedom from it's people so it can slowly turn itself into a totalitarianism country).

Then again, maybe that's the problem.. Maybe if you people actually knew what a real terrorist was, maybe you'd realize that right about now, you are essentially being afraid of nothing more than your own shadows...

Only child molesters see nothing wrong with someone groping and fondling their children while claiming they're looking for weapons of mass destruction.

Driving costs money, so that's out. Bus costs money, so that's out. Train costs money, so that's out.

Heck, even walking costs money - acquiring public right of ways / building and maintaining them, such as roads, sidewalks, paths, etc costs money.

In a free society, right of free movement IS a basic right regardless of whether it's walking, car, bus, train, flying, etc.

The progression cannot be denied. All within 10 years. I don't feel any less safe than I did 10 years ago. Call me naive, 9/11 was an extreme freak occurrence that will hopefully never happen again. Safety measures need to be in place, absolutely. How many? What level is "enough?" Do these measures actually prevent disaster? Is there really an imminent threat that cannot already be thwarted with methods currently in place?
