I've seen where they limit the scene to 3-5 min of the beginning of a clip and you need to be a paying member to see the whole thing. I wondered the same, cause they can always get it free at another tube.
I guess if they are a tube paysite with their own exclusive content this would work

for example to download or watch movies in full screen and to use social functions as blog and chat.
