Need help removing some spyware

I let someone surf the net with my computer and now there is some sort of spyware on it. I've used just about everything that I can think of to get rid of it. Malwarebytes', SpyDoctor, SpyBot Search and Destroy, ComboFix, you name it I've tried it. They all come up clean. I run ESET NOD32 and it is blocking connections. Sometimes when I use Google the search results are redirected to sites like admarketplace.com and other sites. It blocks windows updates.

I've searched and searched and still haven't come up with a way to get rid of this. Does anyone have any idea how I can get rid of this?

Had the same issue and as near as I can tell, I got these Cooties from GFY but not sure.

I did all of what you have done and finally just took the box offline and scrapped it out.

Shot skeet with the hard drive.

Beats the fuck out of me what it is but it is a bad motherfucker!

Try the BitDefender Rescue CD

I'd reformat.

malwarebytes free trial always does the trick i am surprised it did not work for you. check for something funny running in your task manager. you can probably track it down from there and remove it manually

What OS? Combofix should get rid of the google redirect virus. Have you double checked your host file?

BlueWave 12-05-2010 08:36 PM

As to the redirects and block certain urls & ip's, it could be something as simple as a f'd up HOSTS file.

Do a search for HostsMan, it makes it easy to work with your HOSTS file and may help you resolve the issue.

I was running Windows Vista Home Premium.

Also, my monitor would show that Windows was starting but then went to a black screen until the screen saver came on, which the monitor would show.

WTF?

Actually, I didn't kill the hard drive but felt like it, so I could fix it maybe if you guys and dolls keep coming up with possible solutions.

I got this virus or one like it a good few months back and found NOTHING to get rid of it and ended up having to reformat.
Its a nasty little fucker that alters virus checkers to make it invisible to them, which might explain why you are getting false results.
What annoyed me more than anything else was the fact that the virus is quite old now and you would have thought that the virus checkers would guard against it .. but no :(

A friend killed my previous Vaio that way. Was on myspace and got a pop up that said a virus had been detected and clicked ok.

I tried EVERYTHING. Eventually I used McAffee, I know someone with a premium acct and was able to run it off his info. It got my laptop back but it was never the same after that. I would never keep McAffee running full time on a machine as it seems to be a resource hog, but for that one situation- after trying literally everything- it was the only one who could grab it.

Sound like you need TDSS Killer
try that from Kaspersky is Free
http://www.kaspersky.com/virus-removal-tools
Edit:I hade the same problem and TDSS fix that for me

Jakez 12-05-2010 10:24 PM

Was going to say malwarebytes but I guess that didn't work. Good luck.

Adraco 12-06-2010 03:47 AM

This was the only thing that worked. I've never experienced anything that was a pain in the ass like this.

Malwarebytes rocks, if you have trouble getting it or any other anti virus or malware program to install or run, reboot, try doing the same in safe mode which I think prevents most bad software from loading allowing you to install/operate software previously being blocked by a virus. To get there just restart, start tapping F8, select safe mode and try again. This was the only way to get rid of a nasty problem I once had.

Zorgman 12-08-2010 03:45 AM

I had something like this and found out it was malware in my model bios. I didn't even know it could get there but from what I understand when it happens you get a new modem. I got my new modem today and it's gone.

Try Avast antivirus :)

I was going to recommend this also - a very good remover program. This is excellent as well in case you are seeing unwanted pops also - http://vundofix.atribune.org/

OK, my computer will boot up; you can see the intital Windows screen with the little dots moving acrass the bottom of he monitor but the screen then goes dark until the screensaver comes on. Cancelling the screensaver simply returns me to a black screen. Same thing in Safe MOde.

NO idea how to fix this and even tried changing the video card to no avail.

WTF?

Any ideas?

Great answer...I have used the system restore many times when I have had an issue (often quicker than finding and killing the problem).
