I try to use that in my laptop and desktop as my primary. And I like it, but I cannot use some of applications so I go back to 7 :)

I haven't ran it regularly for a while. I tried installing Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my netbook when XP failed on me, and am having issues getting the appropriate drivers for my wireless now. It looks and runs very smoothly though, just wish I could get it online.

XP failed me big time - I said 'fuck it' The new UBUNTU loads so fast and clean! (just had to download and burn in 1 ISO file - 656 MB) I'm very happy! I'm on GFY now with it (heh heh)

You can get an Application from the Software Centre called Wine and it allows you to run Windows Applications, I have used it for programs and games that would not otherwise run on Linux.

I had the same issue with wireless on a laptop, but there is something you can get to use the windows drivers to make it run on Ubuntu. Also depending on which Wireless Adapter your laptop uses some manufacturers have brought out additional linux drivers (this was the case for me).

Chosen 12-09-2010 04:54 AM

Not me, but I'll consider it :)

munki 12-09-2010 04:55 AM

I heart ubuntu

AntiChrist 12-09-2010 05:10 AM

I used it. Very handy for testing / developing things.

Apache, php, perl, mysql etc. All easy installed.

Some things like video editing software you can use vmware player or virtualbox (free).

Phoenix 12-09-2010 05:30 AM

Hentaikid 12-09-2010 06:00 AM

seeandsee 12-09-2010 06:17 AM

Ravage 12-09-2010 08:29 AM

I'm still on 10.04 on two of my boxes here in the office. The other two are Vista :(

At home I triple boot my main PC with Win 7, Ubuntu and OSX

fpaul90 12-09-2010 08:31 AM

I use ubuntu everyday

SuzzyQ 12-09-2010 08:36 AM

We use Ubuntu 10.04 on both of our laptops with Win XP as the backup OS. Once we got the wireless to work, its been great. It found our aircards without and issues. Almost plug and play. We also have IE, Dreamweaver, and a couple other things running thanks to Crossover Office Pro.

Klen 12-09-2010 09:06 AM

The problem is asshole program developers which constantly refuse to issue version for linux of their programs. One day when i will have toomuch money i will order clone of windows programs which i use and release those programs as open source.

Exoclick 12-09-2010 09:13 AM

have you used it as a web server?

mafia_man 12-09-2010 08:48 PM

I installed it on a few machines.

I hate the way it renders foreign fonts (although that might be firefox).

I also scroll in Chrome using my mouse wheel whilst playing music and the music output gets all distorted.

Always little niggling things like this that make me avoid using Linux for my desktop.

So I'll stick to windows for now.

fuzebox 12-09-2010 09:03 PM

Been running Linux as my only desktop for 14 years... Never actually ran Windows on my computers as I jumped from Mac to Linux.

Yes, apache web server .

Gasper 12-10-2010 04:51 AM

I've installed it for my father cuz the windows XP were so slow (old installation) - and he uses it mainly for browsing.

So far so good - it's pretty stable and doesn't use lots of ram - about 10 - 15% on a 1gig machine

You could likely fix both of those issues with some effort if you wanted to.
