A new iPhone App with the misleading name ?PatriotApp? attempts to draw on the power of the patriot movement, turning smartphone users into a gigantic snitch network.

You might think an app with such a patriotic name might have useful functions like a pocket constitution or quotes from our forefathers. But contrary to the services one might expect, this app allows users to report any ?suspicious? behavior directly linking them with top government agencies.

Much like the new DHS program ?If you see something, say something? this app is meant to turn average citizens into a network of spies feeding information back to the federal government.

Citizen Concepts, a company formed by insiders from DHS, defines the use of such an app on their homepage:


An app like this is meant to solidify the climate of fear in which our leaders want us to exist. The threat of terrorism must be palpable in order for the ?War on Terror? to be justified and to validate all the extreme measures instituted in its name.

No I think anyone who supports government legilsation which over reaches our own constitution (Patriot Act) as well as people who support the government promoting "spying on your neighbors" (a little too 3rd Reich-ish for me) should all die in a fire. 2) I call my senator, governer, and congressman's offices on a regular basis about issues.
3) I read, constantly... latest events, publications from all sides of the fence, and much about constitutional law.
4) I donate money to organizations I feel are promoting and working for causes I believe in

and most importantly... I talk to people I know, and people I meet, about current issues and ask them to vote and be active in changing the United States for the better in the same ways I do.

Good, we should all work together for a better society.

Actually, I'm pretty young... but if you have any better ideas about how to turn this country around... I'm all ears. If more people were actively taking a part in directing the country we wouldn't be in the position we are in now...

The founding fathers knew every system is subject to corruption over time. That's why the verbiage was written the way it was. They had just escaped the tyranny of England and they wanted a system of government that answered to the people... not the other way around.

But as an American people we have given the government the tools, motive, and opportunity to hide their actions from us, create legislation that overreaches their own authority, and corrupt the government down to its very core.

If you aren't doing something to correct it, then you are part of the problem. The action of no action is still an action...

i don't see there being anything wrong with reporting crimes when you see them in your neighbourhood if it is done with the purpose to protect your neighbourhood.. snitching is only when someone benefits from the act...

There's a difference between defending yourself/your family/your neighbors and reporting tons of information about your neighbors to some organization that claims to protect people but in reality forces people to pay for substandard services and constantly abuses the powers it claims to have.

There is not much privacy nowadays. A lot of people like to snitch.

His problem is authority, nothing else. The arguments are just a irrational struggle to rationalize an irrational fear and resentment of authority. The so called "concerns" always have the same recurring theme.

Here's one: get people to care about each other and love each other and they won't kill each other. How about that?

Instead of making them afraid of each other, get people working together and being a real society and not just a bunch of paranoid drones.

So fucking simple - all over the world people care about each other and love each other and you never see things like this happen. Problems with people are rooted out early because people care and want to help each other. Instead you have everyone now being afraid of everyone, afraid to talk, afraid to even think and problems boil up in people until they pop because they are afraid to talk things out.
