A whey to reduce high blood pressure

A study conducted at Washington State University has revealed that beverages supplemented with whey-based protein can significantly reduce high blood pressure.

The article, which was published in the International Dairy Journal, reported that daily doses of whey resulted in a six point reduction in the average blood pressure of men and women with hypertension. Led by nutritional biochemist Susan Fluegel, the research team evaluated 71 individuals between the ages of 18 and 26 with elevated systolic and diastolic blood pressures.

"One of the things I like about this is it is low cost," Fluegel said. "Not only that, whey protein has not been shown to be harmful in any way."

The supplements were delivered to study participants through fruit-flavored drinks. Although whey-based protein had a beneficial effect for those with hypertension, it had no adverse effects on those who did not.

Reductions in blood pressure have been associated with a lower risk for cardiovascular disease and up to a 40 percent less chance of having a fatal stroke.

The researchers said that they were enthusiastic about the benefits of whey, a cheese byproduct that may also be cost-effective.

thats interesting.. i remember i was taking whey protein supplements (sometimes a lot) for years while i was working out, when i went on a year hiatus from weights and didn't take any whey at all in that time thats when i was diagnosed with high bp... maybe not a coincidence?

I should add them back to the diet, see how it goes.

hmmm yea that is interesting, try adding a scoop or 2 a day and see if that helps bring it down again. I also drink it at least once a day even on my off days of working out.

Stop nicotine consumption, exercise, lose extra weight, eat dark chocolate. If that fails use an alpha or beta blocker prescribed by a Doctor ...

I mix whey with my daily green drink every day. If you really want to get healthy, find a good green drink powder, especially if you don't like eating green veggies.
