Why do old people eat dinner so early?
And not early-bird specials either - just regular dinner at home?
I have to go to my elderly aunt's house for dinner tonight, and I was told to do my best to get there by 5:00. Who the hell eats dinner at 5:00?! I just finished lunch at 2:30! |
i like dinner

Because eating late is not good for your digestion, at any age.
|
Don't know but It sure is that way. I had dinner with my grandparents last weekend and It was set for 4:30.
My self I usually eat lunch at 2 and dinner around 7-8 |

Well I have dinner about 12:00 to 13:00. I have my tea about 18:00.
thanks |
because they wake up at 5 am?
|
I've always been a little bit curious about this myself, lol..Maybe it's because they get up so much earlier than the rest of the world? I normally get up around 8am and eat dinner at 6pm..Considering some of them wake up at like 5am..they probably get hungry around 3pm lol

They start the day ridiculously early.

Ha, I kid my dad about this from time to time. My parents are both in their 80's, but while my mom usually eats her dinner at 6-ish, my dad is invariably sitting down to eat at 4:30, or no later than 5.
On days when I'm over there and we order in food, if the food is late getting there you can bet that 5 minutes past 5pm he'll be pacing the floor and looking anxious. :D Me, I eat usually at 6 or thereabouts, or whenever the food is ready. I'm not fussy. But 4:30 is too damn early. |
personally i dislike eating dinner late. if you eat then sleep for 8 hours you arent burning some of the calories you digest. dinner @ 5pm is perfect.
|
I dont buy the eating early because they get up early.. I sometimes wake up at like 5:30am and I still eat dinner around 6:30pm
|
probably because their digestion isn't what it used to be. They can start watching local news at 5pm while enjoying dinner and taking their time to eat. I hate going to bed on a full stomach
Local news--->national news---->wheel of fortune--->jeopardy--->time for bed |
Yeah, I've noticed that too. What I've noticed even more though is how extremely bitchy they tend to get when they're hungry, and if their dinner isn't served on time. They have it set in their mind that at 5:30pm sharp, there's supposed to be a plate of food sitting infront of them. If it doesn't get there until 5:45pm, they're pissed. :)
|
i wake up at 1pm, have breakfast at 3-4pm, lunch at 7-8pm and dinner at midnight. not good? ;)
|
PS: reminds of one episode of Seinfeld where he complains about that cause his parents want to take him to dinner at 5pm because it's happy hour prices

Old people take along time to do things....they have to start earlier
|
old people are cute. let them eat whenever, they may not be around much longer. loosen up and enjoy it.
|
In case they die - they won't have missed dinner.
|
Also the older you get the earlier you put the garbage bins out to be collected.

my grandparents are farmers... they have dinner at 5:30 watch news at 6, then go to sleep, and they wake up at 4 am to turn on the engines for cows lol, they wake up when im arriving drunk to their house lol
|
The real reason is because once you get so old, especially if married you pretty much have nothing else to discuss or plan for. They eat at 5pm, watch a little tv.. it will be 5:30 and they'll be thinking/discussing what they will have for breakfast when they get up.. breakfast comes around when they are sitting eating they will be discussing what they should have for lunch, etc.
|
Its because they wake up early and are pooped by 8pm. I wake up and work at 4am, because of time differences, but luckily I have a mid afternoon nap to keep me going.
|
Old tradition. Man come home from work, dinner ready. That is (was) a good wife. :)

aww, for the old people
|
We'll all be there eventually, sucking down our $4.99 early bird specials at 4:30 pm.
Well, most of us. Some here will be lucky and die young. |
Speaking of early bird specials and why old people eat so early, most of those specials are cheaper in price and a lot of elderly are on a fixed income and don't have a lot of cash but they still like to eat out once in a while.
|
I must be old lol
Breakfast: 6:30am with the kid before she goes to school lunch : if i eat its about 11:30am or so dinner : 5:00pm ;/ |
I eat one meal a day between 3pm and 5pm... no not a 2 hour dinner, thats just the window of time that I use to eat so the meal will be sometime between those hours.
I do it because eating in the morning kind of makes me feel ill or tired. I start my evening break between 3pm and 4pm, take a couple of hours to watch a show or something with the family then I am back in front of my computer usually until about 11pm at night. So, it is convenient for me to eat early |
Sometimes my breakfast is @ 5pm :(
|
i eat breakfast for dinner.
|
eating dinner late and eating and going straight to bed are two completely different things...
if you eat late, say around 8pm, and don't go to sleep until around 12:30am your digestion wont be affected in the least, or no more so than it would the elderly when they go to bed at 9pm and dinner at 5 anyway. |

Once you become old enough your junk stops working so the reason to stay up late and catch some side-boob-action becomes completely pointless. Bed is the obvious option. It pushes everything else forward.
My folks get up nearly the same time as I go to bed but I'm designing porn sites so one might question who's the more fucked up. :) |
Simple, it keeps you from getting fat
