Thailand webmasters...

There's seems to be a decent number of us on the board. Isn't the exchange rate absolutely fabulous these days?

I was so excited, I almost pissed my pants about taking a 13 - 15% pay cut over the past 8 months. How thrilling. Anyone else in the same boat?

Isn't it cheap as hell to live there tho? I know a guy who lived there for 2.5 years and him living like a king cost about $3000 per month.

yeah it sucks 20 months ago it were 36 baht to the dollar now its below 30.

Ross
Depends on where you live the tourist ares are expensive but if you live in areas for Thais then its cheap.

It depends how you want to live and eat. Rent is cheap, electric is expensive. Transportation is cheap if your cruising a motorbike. Food adds up for me because I don't eat Thai food. . :food-smil02

When I first came here the baht was 50. Today I believe it's 29 and some change.

Add on top of that inflation, general spike in prices and the overall Thai price gouging and it is a serious blow. It used to be so cheap here it was almost criminal. Only place I see old Thai prices these days is in Indonesia. But I'm sure those days are numbered as well.

Was reading they expect the baht to level out to 25 baht to the dollar sometime in 2011. Brutal.

Yeah read it to and then it would start to rise again.
I am here long term and I will survive 25-1 only thing I am concerned about is when him we don't talk about is no longer among us and the 6 months mourning period is over, what will happen then? I think it will be chaos big time I have been thinking about how I get out as quickly as possible never hurts to be prepared. I think thats a bigger concern than the baht to dollar rate.

It's definitely not expensive, but I wouldn't say it's cheap either. For example, back when I was living in downtown West Vancouver, I was spending about $4000 per-month. Up here in suburbia NE Thailand, I'd say I'm spending about $3000/month. We're comfortable, have a nice house, and never go with out, but definitely don't live like kings.

Depends though. You could live off $300/month no problem up here, if wanted. That's assuming you don't care about air-conditioning, don't mind having a few thousand ants as roommates, and don't mind getting your protein from chicken feet, intestines, and shit like that.

"kuay twea"? You mean เก๋้วยเตี๊ยว? Soup with noodles, some luchin, bit of pork, etc.? Yeah, I'm sick of that stuff. Too many nights 2am rolls around, and we decide we're hungry, and that's the only thing available at that time. We never stock up on food, and just buy day-to-day, because there's too many people coming in and out all the time, so anything we do buy disappears quite quickly. Except my beer. Everyone that comes into my house knows not to touch my beer. :)
