Are solar roadways the future?
Just saw this tonight and figured I'd pass it on. Pretty amazing concept.

Looks good.

Interesting idea. I want to see how their glass handles rocks, dirt, ice and snow. The price for the solar cells are going to have to also come way way way WAY down. I wouldn't be surprised if something like this is 40 to 50 years out.

LOL, America is still trying to wrap it's head around advanced roadway technologies such as "concrete".
|
Awesome concept but What about floods and earthquakes?
|
its water proof
it can probably handle earthquakes as well if not a bit better than asphalt already can |
Might be best to start this off on foot paths first then move to roads later on. Walking path ways also get lots of light and they don't have MAC trucks running on them. Their smaller and quicker to install. A city of solar powered foot paths.

awesome concept

looks very interesting, but I guess it'll take a few more years until it's ready for real world use, and some things still need to be figured out ...
but the concept is great! |
Awesome concept, and kudos to them for coming up with it!
|
great idea ..
|
we dont even have descent traffic lights so, light years away
|
Can see large sections disappearing in the night.

It's a pretty good idea. But solar panels are still way too expensive.
Also, some people in germany actually say that today's solar market's capacity should be capped to protect the future of the industry. If it was financially possible to install so many panels in the US, then you would simply have NO solar industry anymore for 20-25 years. That and the cost that are involved are the main reasons why this is not going to happen. |
I would like to see how much energy they produce when the glass is covered by dust, dirt and scratches.

people said that the iron would be too expensive to build a railway to span across the US originally too.. as long as the potential for growth and profit is there anything is possible...
