Polk County extradites pedo "How To.." author

Author who wrote 'how-to' for pedophiles arrested

By the CNN Wire Staff

December 20, 2010 1:04 p.m. EST

The man behind a controversial book, considered a "how-to" guide for pedophiles, was arrested in Colorado, officials in Florida said Monday.

"You cannot engage or depict children in a harmful relationship," said Polk County, Florida Sheriff Grady Judd as he described the Florida obscenity statute officials used to charge Philip Greaves with distribution of obscene material depicting minors engaged in conduct harmful to a minors.

The self-published author was arrested in Pueblo, Colorado on a Florida felony warrant after undercover detectives in Polk County purchased and received a copy of the book through the mail. He will have to be extradited to Florida to face charges.

Judd said the book was Greaves last copy, which he autographed before sending it out.

Greaves and his book, "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-Lover's Code of Conduct," gained national attention earlier this year after Amazon.com defended selling the book on its website despite angry comments and threats of boycotts from thousands of users.

The website pulled the book from its site in early November.

"He actually provided a how-to guide to commit sexual battery against children," according to Judd, who said he was shocked and mortified by specific examples and illustrations using 9 and 13 year old boys.

Judd said he was frustrated that Greaves book was protected under freedom of speech laws, despite the fact that it was created "specifically to teach people how to sexual molest and rape children."

"There may be nothing that the other 49 states can do, but there is something that the state of Florida can do," Judd said, "that's to make sure we prosecute Philip Greaves for his manifesto."

Officials said the book talked about safe sex and avoiding injury to the child, grooming and preparing the child for sex, and teaching the children how to lie to their parents.

Judd said Greaves book outlines a "code of ethics," which showed pedophiles how to look for the most vulnerable children.

"The message is very clear, if you write a book , if you sell that book, if you transmit that book to anyone in our jurisdiction, then we will investigate you and arrest, because our goal is protect the children," the sheriff said.

They ordered "the last copy" of his book from the internet, so that they could receive it and then extradite him to another state to arrest him for it?

That seems to be stretching things a bit.

I hate shit like this. Assholes always have to color outside the lines- both the author and the sheriff.

I don't want that book published any more than anyone else, but at what price. I don't know all the facts, but from what I have heard there was a string of email correspondence that led up to the purchase of the book coercing the author out of his last physical copy.

Judd is really fucking pushing the envelope, and one could argue so did that asshole by writing that book to begin with- and I agree... but 2 wrongs don't make a right. Any stand taken against the sheriff's actions will be viewed as a stand in support of a pederast. This is all a very slippery slope. :Oh crap

The tactic is old hat ... in particular, read up on Amateur Action BBS and Operation Pipe Dreams - both very different and yet the tactics to legally snare the suspects were similar.

Many adult websites, especially those that physically ship goods, won't sell to customers located in various states / regions to reduce their chances of running afoul of local community standards and other various laws of some overly aggressive jurisdictions...

And risky jurisdictions can potentially include other countries, such as in the case of Kentucky seizing numerous gambling related domain names, including some from people that don't even live in the U.S.

Is his freedom of speech not as free as any of yours just because of his subject matter? Or just because you don't like or agree with his subject matter?

And why anyone would ever mail anything to Polk County is beyond me.

Oh wow... you just broke Rule #7 on the day I got back... wow

Apparently this isn't the United States Of America anymore. People aren't allowed to write or read certain things in this "free" country.

Up until the new Gestapo States Of America...this assclown would have simply toted an ass whipping everywhere he went, until somebody killed him.

But these days, Big Brother TELLS us what we can and can't read, write, watch, and even THINK about.

This guy is despicable...but throwing him in jail for typing words on a piece of paper sounds an awful lot like what I was taught as a kid that "communists" and "nazi's" did and we didn't believe in that kind of thing.

Please don't think I'm defending this piece of human garbage. Just sayin' that writing words and thinking thoughts isn't illegal, and if it is...then the United States Of America isn't what we have been told it's supposed to be.

EDIT: By the way...as a side note: I was born in Bartow, Fla. The County seat of Polk County. Graduated high school there and my parents still live there. It really is SUPER redneck backwoods there.

Very well said. No one is supporting this guy's motives, but his right to type some words on paper should still be there, no matter what those words are. It's kind of funny to see the same group of people who scream bloody murder at the prospect of the adult internet being censored, turn right around and cry for the censorship of some other guy whose content they disagree with. How about imprisoning the guy for raping children, instead of having an opinion? Freedom of speech isn't something that works on a case by case basis, it's all or nothing. When you start selectively censoring things you're opening the floodgates, and if you want your own opinions free to be shared in the open, you better be prepared to hear some you disagree with yourself....

you can't yell "FIRE" in a crowded theater either. been that way for decades and decades.

But dyna mo, you know you're playing devil's advocate to the devils advocate that is already being played...damn, that was confusing. lol

Yelling "fire" in a crowded theater will get someone killed or injured. You know that. There's a difference. This guy wrote some nasty stuff that the majority of people find offensive. But in the USA that isn't supposed to be a crime and is supposed to be protected by our constitution.

The reality is that the company that published that book made a decision to do so. They didn't have to. The stores that sold that book made the same decision.

And each of us can make our own FREE decision to read or NOT read that book. I don't need the govt. telling me what I can and can't read, write or think.

As far as this being a "how to" book for pedophiles...what a fucking joke. Since when did they need a "how to" book for that anyway? I'm pretty damn sure that they know how to do it. This is media sensationalism to get ratings.

And even if it is some kind of "how to" book...does that mean that every book out there that has murder in it and describes the murder step-by-step is now to be censored and the author arrested for murder?

Jesus...go get those guys that make those "Saw" movies and toss them in jail right now. Those sick ass movies are "how to" videos on torturing, maiming, and killing people.

See? It all starts to get ridiculous real quick. This guy is going to end up beating this easily and probably with the ACLU's help.

And then somebody will beat the hell out of him somewhere, which is what he deserves.

BIGTYMER 12-21-2010 02:07 AM

I don't agree with his book but he shouldn't be arrested for it.

Free speech is dead in Amerika

Amazon pulled the book. What more do you want?
