How Many Affiliate Reps Are on HARD Drugs?

You IM one. They get back to you in a few hours (even though they're online the whole time). You say something to them - they disappear indefinitely. Reply next day - maybe.

Sure some will say "O they have thousands of affiliates".

I don't think it's that though :)

Bryan G 12-22-2010 02:31 PM

I feel your pain, trust me it's annoying as hell.

or another thing that pisses me off. I'll make a post offering traffic and to contact me. Then the usual post "Hit me up Bro"

No you contact me if you want the traffic.

JayDeeZee 12-22-2010 02:31 PM

How many set their status to show that they are always available?

That's what I do.

Same here. Trust me though, if I can't get back to you within an hour or so it's probably because I'm eating lunch, not because I'm nodding off somewhere in the corner of my office with a rubber band around my arm and a crooked grin on my face. :)

magicmike 12-22-2010 02:38 PM

Yeah I'll get up and leave my desk without shutting off icq, then I feel bad when you come back and its

hello...

are you there...

why are you ignoring me?

lol

Dude I want your traffic.. Hit me up :pimp

My favorite druggie affiliate reps are the coke heads. the motivation behind their spam is unrelenting. lol

PR_Glen 12-22-2010 02:44 PM

I should be on hard drugs...

but yeah... I leave mine on always so I can get back to them when i get in again.. most reps tend to sleep for 8 hours give or take, some even eat away from there desk from time to time, so I wouldn't worry about it too much ;)

I would suggest leaving a detailed message and also write them an email because icq, as we all know, can be a flawed system on occasion. Especially when things like timed updates reboot the computer and you drop messages here and there because of it! grrr i hate that.

LauraLee 12-22-2010 02:47 PM

When I was an affiliate rep, I wasn't on drugs, I was just one touch cockie :winkwink:

eurabia 12-22-2010 03:00 PM

O and with many you have to communicate like you would with a baby. Repeat everything at least 10 times until they understand, rephrase everything 5 times until they understand. Clarify their gibberish at least 12 times. Or and you have to be extremely nice - otherwise they have 5000 affiliates, u know?

Chris 12-22-2010 03:07 PM

I have a reallllyyyy bad addiction

Some are great, some aren't. For the most part 90% of the people I have communicated with were competent. But you have to realize that many reps are more B2B sales people and communication specialists. Not all of them know affiliate marketing inside and out as you or I might.

Now let's ask how many program owners are on hard drugs. :upsidedow (is there an "escape" emoticon?)
And let's be fair. Not all affiliates are the brightest bulbs either.

Chosen 12-22-2010 03:17 PM

It's definitely not about me :)
When I'm online, I'm answering pretty fast.

bl4h 12-22-2010 03:25 PM

Honestly I expect little of them

No way I could do what they do. Wouldn't last a day before i got fired for calling someone a douche. I imagine its like working at Dell tech support

I set mine to be always away. WMs will still hit you up, just allows you to buy some time.

I've turned mine back onto available mode and my ICQ lights up like a damn Christmas tree. I have to keep it on away.

Sometimes I feel like I should be on them. If I am there I always reply straight away and if I have to step away from the conversation I say so. More often than not though it is the other side of the conversation where people vanish for long periods.

Being a rep is a lifestyle not a job. When I login to ICQ to chat with personal friends. Sometimes affiliates will call on me to help them. Not much I can do from home. We have a VPN so not much can be done from my home PC.

but I'm not the type to say "can you not contact me during off hours"

You need to have separate work and personal login names then. Use something like Trillian and run them both at the same time.

I'm not complaining because it doesnt bother when an affiliate wants help. or just to chat about our pornsites. If it's really that urgent I'll get to the office and take care of it. If not I'll deal with it first thing in the morning when I get in @ 8am.

I used to own my own biz and it's a lifestyle that I'm accustomed to.:thumbsup

CurrentlySober 12-23-2010 03:40 AM

I hate it when you hit up a rep for something and they insist on using a webcam to chat. So you view their cam, only to find your supposed rep dressed in womens lingerie, with full makeup and false eyelashes, red lipstick and a sporting a beard!

You try to ignore this for a while, and make your request for some specific questions to be answered etc, but the rep keeps interrupting you with stupid questions like 'Do I look nice in panties?' Or 'Shall I turn round and show you my behind?'

Its just fucking annoying! It wouldn't be so bad if it was a cross dressing niche sponsor rep... That *may* make sense, but its not even close!

So, yeah, I feel your pain, and as LeRoy said, being a rep is a lifestyle choice... And then some.

I mean, cross dressings fine - Whatever floats your boat etc, but when you are trying to talk to a billing company, it gets a bit much! :2 cents:

I try to keep my status accurate during the workday. If I have to step away for more than a couple of minutes I will change my status to 'away'. In the evenings I keep it on N/A. Most of the time WMs with important issues will send the message and I answer them as soon as I see them

If I forget and leave my status as available and step away I feel bad if someone messages me and waits

Same. And I always reply to those who contact me very quickly.

Being an affiliate rep. I still keep my working ICQ online not only in my working hours but all the time I am online myself. And of course I do reply and help anyone hitting me up on the week-ends or late at night.

I am not paid for that in particular but I try to make people feel comfortable working with me as their rep.

I like this advice. When I contact someone I usually try to include a sentence that explains what I want or why I am contacting them. I get a lot of messages that just say "hey." Of course I answer them, but logically the next part of the conversation is "how can I help you?"

If as an affiliate, all of this information can be written out and ready right away, it can make the whole experience go a lot faster. And actually, this doesn't just apply to the affiliates and affiliate reps, it really applies to everything in life.

Look at the bright side... it's a good way to weed out those that are not serious about their business....

That makes sense but I think some affiliates who have had bad experiences with other programs like to keep the message general just to get an initial response. It used to be that for payment issues the bad programs would ignore you if you mentioned "payments" in your initial message. This way you verify that someone is definitely getting your messages and you can't be blown off or delayed as easily without knowing something is up. I imagine for some it can become a bad habit. 90% of the time when I contact a program on ICQ it is for a payment related issue.

That's a fair point as well.

Tjeezers 12-23-2010 08:21 AM

a progressive grow in your company can be stimulated by a 24/7 Support Desk with people who are doing anything to make the webmaster feel loved. If a company comes with this, they stand out from the rest.

I bypass every program that lacks on support. They dont seem to care, why would I ?

I don't think it's that though :)

Im always "Available" or "Away", but rarely if ever "Offline" (unless I get a random disconnected while Im away. For me, I'd rather get your message so I can assist you when I get back to the office, then have you not contact me at all.

Also, some chat programs dont update status until it gets a request from the other client. ;)

Most legendary aff rep was Tassy, she replied to my icq message exactly one month after :) But it doesn't matter,at least she showed her tits, and then everything is forgiven :D

Roald 12-23-2010 09:04 AM

it should be general rule to at least say what you want. A simple "Hey" is not going to work. I personally get a ton of them a day and if I don't know you it you are way down the list to get a reply.

A typical icq convo with someone I don't know often goes like this:

Hey
4 hours later my reply
Hey
4 hours later their reply
Hey you still there
4 hours later my reply
Here now
4 hours later their reply
Let me know when you are around
4 hours later my reply
Drop me an email roald @t freeones .com time zones are a bitch you know.

Hate it! Don;t understand why people can not at least say what they are contacting you for or just send an email.

yeah i can imagine how outstanding that support would be at a 4am shift...

The problem is that in order for us to help the average webmaster, whether it be account info, errors in the program (non emergency), or general accounting issues requires someone from the company with access. We limit access to this information, we would never give this kind of vital info over to a part time support person or someone we barely know working abroad at a discount rate.. this would be a huge security leak and could cause major issues including having your account info getting into the wrong hands... I wasn't even given access to this stuff until I was already hear for 5 years.

Even if we decided to put in a 24 hour support shift with limited access what are they going to help you with exactly? Show you where our free content is? Help you find the link codes? We couldn't even give them password access due to security risks at the end of the day so they wouldn't be much help at all..

I try my best to be online at all hours and Leroy said it best its a Lifestyle..I often tell webmastersexactly what I'm doing and will hit them back up later. Problem is they are never around when I'm done and it comes into this game of tag.

Threads with negative undertones towards affiliate managers are a common as juicy making gay jokes.
