Why did I wait so long to switch to Chrome?

Installed Windows 7 over the holiday and am getting myself ready to work on Monday. I decided to skip Firefox and IE and give Chrome a try. So far I'm loving it.

HerPimp 12-26-2010 11:59 PM

chrome gives me gas, firefox is still king.

theking 12-27-2010 12:06 AM

I tried it because Fire Fox was crashing so much and I didn't like it at all...so I went back to Fire Fox and with the last update it seems to have stopped crashing.

My issue with firefox is that when I would start it up, it would freeze up after about 2 minutes. I would have to sit and wait while it unfroze, then periodically, a couple of times throughout the day, it would do the same thing. It may not have been Firefox. It could have been Vista. It is also possible that Chrome is like the new girl you are dating and you find nothing wrong with it. So I might be back in a few weeks bitching about it once I get to know it. :)

nolongerexists 12-27-2010 12:22 AM

no proper custom keyconfig in chrome = fail

JBlack 12-27-2010 12:22 AM

Chrome is sexy n all but remember... the Google'z is watching ur every move! lulz

This is the exact issue I'm having with FF. A page will be loading in a tab, I'll try to jump to a separate tab, and next thing I know FF is froze. Irritating as fuck. I've been considering Chrome, and have given it a shot, I just don't like it. What I want is for Firefox to start working like it used to.

moeloubani 12-27-2010 12:32 AM

how can you not like chrome it is flawless

It was virtually not functional for me.

yep, annoying as hell. Supposedly the new version of Firefox is coming out soon. Hopefully that will fix the problem. But at the moment, one day into it, I am liking Chrome. It does take a little getting use to.

Zorgman 12-27-2010 01:17 AM

Chrome loves me too. Can't use FF as it crashes my system.

Konda 12-27-2010 01:19 AM

I can't think of any reason not to use Chrome.

I don't understand why people still use buggy and slow browsers like IE and FF

Its not possible to remove page header/footer information (url, page name, date etc), when printing from Chrome... pretty basic stuff in the other browser, but not in Google/Chrome (or they just canīt be bothered)

The evil google will know your entire browsing history?

You say that like Firefox and IE don't do the same.

loreen 12-27-2010 02:18 AM

I use FF and Chrome and IE (in that order) :)
They all have their role and I couldn't pick just one.

Agent 488 12-27-2010 02:26 AM

you get used to chrome. ff is just garbage now.

Chrome is great, I use it more than 8 months now as main browser.

jonnydoe 12-27-2010 08:30 AM

I use FF more than anything and I was having lots of crashes too. It seemed to me to have something to do with Flash. The latest versions of Firefox and Flash seem more stable. I like Chrome but some stuff does not work quite right there yet. It is more code compliant than IE which is not saying much. I have things that render perfectly in FF and Chrome and then I test them in IE8 (compatibility mode on even) and they look like shit.

I despise IE but still most of my surfers use it.

Be careful with Chrome. I was shopping for geiger counters on amazon and now I get Google ads about Geiger counters pretty much everywhere (youtube etc.).
There is no way they could know that, so they sent that info through the browser.
I have turned all switches on the privacy tab off but this browser is still recording my moves.

VladS 12-27-2010 08:36 AM

It's possibly that Firefox freezes because of the plugins you're using, or the OS. I didn't have problems with Firefox, if it's well configured, it's top notch.

Of course, why do you think they made a browser in the first place?

And when their OS comes out, you won't even have to browse the interwebs to be served targeted ads. Just type "geiger counters" in some .txt file and you will start seeing google ads about geiger counters everywhere, probably even on the desktop. :1orglaugh

Which is not necessarily a bad thing, it helps users better find what they're looking for, but re privacy i see problems.

Phoenix 12-27-2010 10:30 AM

i am thinking of trying it out soon...i use both ff and ie now...for various things

3xTom 12-27-2010 10:39 AM

Chrome I have to say is a definite winner in my book.

Just Say'in :)

john FVC 12-27-2010 11:15 AM

Its certainly fast but I hate the way it handles bookmarking. If they fix that so its like FF or IE then I would use it. Most of the time I use Opera. Would highly recommend it if you have not tried it. Some great features with it.

Agent 488 12-27-2010 11:17 AM

you are right, bookmarking is shitty of chrome.

michael.kickass 12-27-2010 11:22 AM

I use Chrome and Firefox and I still like Firefox more! :2 cents:

GTS Mark 12-27-2010 11:28 AM

I find chrome much superior to firefox

_Richard_ 12-27-2010 11:30 AM

found chrome to be unstable, but use it mostly for forum browsing

CurrentlySober 12-27-2010 11:32 AM

I really like chrome

I used ie for ever, cause my logic was that was what most f the surfers used...

Tried chrome and never looked back...

HomerSimpson 12-27-2010 12:01 PM

Chrome is really good. I use it 99% of the time...
I use FF only for some things and IE just for banking...

me too!
Chrome didnt crash yet!

kane 12-27-2010 02:12 PM

just found the first thing I don't like about Chrome. There is no pull down menu for the address bar that easily lists the last several sites you visited. Instead you have to select history and go that route.

V_RocKs 12-27-2010 02:17 PM

You didn't use it until now because it sucked until now.

djroof 12-27-2010 02:17 PM

yes... google did great work!

John-ACWM 12-27-2010 02:30 PM

Works for me too! Long live Chrome!

yah that takes some getting used to in chrome
you can left mouse click the back arrow and hold it and you can select history quicker

or chrome uses auto complete in the address bar of your recent pages SO if you just start typing http it will throw up the list just like IE's dropdown :winkwink:

Thanks for the tips. I like the auto complete. I also like being able to type something into the address bar and doing a search for it. The left arrow trick is nice

jesse_adultdatingdollars 12-27-2010 04:43 PM

ie still is the most compatable. I love chromes speed.

wait why did you need a Geiger counter? lol

baycouples 12-27-2010 04:56 PM

Unless you're testing stuff or browsing stuff in HTML5 - IE is still the king.

bluemoney 12-27-2010 05:01 PM

Chrome has great speed to surf with.

Dood 12-27-2010 09:00 PM

No one has mentioned Chromium.

To install, find the latest build for your os and download the mini_installer
http://build.chromium.org/f/chromium/snapshots/

The chromium site says, "Our promise: Chromium provides users full transparency and control over the information managed by the browser."

Have you seen the Arcade Fire video that uses Chrome? Seriously, even if you don't like the band it is amazing work.
