Nice list, usually I go to freeones if I need a top list :)

Keep in mind that's only a list of the girls he has listed on his site to promote. So the list is going to be tilted a bit towards that. Just like the Freeones list.

It's a nice snapshot of what's going on on his site with his surfers given the choices that are presented to them. :)

Well, this only partly true.
It is true that surfers might look for more content of the pornstar they just discovered on my site. But on the other hand, surfers can search for any pornstar they want to in the search box. For some of the names in this Top 100, I did not present any new gallery over the past year. Jesse Jane is a good example, she still makes number 15 on the Top 100 list.

As for Aria Giovanni, she was listed in the previous years Top 100's at number:
65 in 2009
64 in 2008
29 in 2007
30 in 2006
13 in 2005
But she ranked below the Top 100 for 2010.

Still tilted to what's offered on the site. If you type in a pornstar that you don't have on the site...it comes back with a "Sorry your search resulted in no results. Please try a different search term"

Also the long term freeloader surfers who never join a site will come to our freesites and search for the same girl that turns them on over and over and over.

I still think it's a good list. And gives just as good of a "feel" for who's popular as the Nielsen ratings do for t.v.
Not cutting down the list at all.

Everytime I see one of these lists I wonder what the hell is wrong with the masses. Man my list would be sooooooo different.

All searches are stored, also the ones that don't have a result page.
For example: I had quite a few searches for Maria Ozawa, who seems to be an Asian pornstar I never heard of before. I guess Japanese or Asian surfers searched for her. Some surfers also look for general terms like anal, teen, ...

No worries at all Robbie! I just wanted to explain.

Maybe you should add her in. I never heard of her before either...but it might be worth it to add her if they are searching.

I understand your comment. I was wondering about that too.
Capri Anderson made the headlines with the Charlie Sheen story at the end of November 2010. That certainly generated extra intrest in her at that moment. Honestly, that moment didn't last very long; this Top 100 contains the numbers for the entire year 2010.
In 2009, Capri Anderson was Twistys' Treat of The month for January 2009, that gave her some nice exposure early 2009, lasting longer than just a few days.
Final observation, she was ranked number 97 in 2009's list and number 100 in 2010's list, those results are pretty similar, the fact that she dropped 3 points is not so relevant I think. I just rolled out the actual numbers without changing anything.

Oh, by the way, none of the pornstars who claimed to be involved with Tiger Woods made the Top 100 either.

Just for the record think we cover a lot of the industry girls known and unknown. So we basically present them with the whole menu and its up to them what they search for.

However in your favor (and CM's favor) our ranking is completely rebuild and rank will be calculated on a lot more factors then just searches (searches, votes, traffic from various sources, clicks etc). So lets see where CM end up next year!

Just curious if you have ever even visited FreeOnes.

Do you have any idea just how many girls they have? They are and have been the industry leader in pornstar sites for YEARS.

Lol. Yes I have been to Freeones. I remember when they just started out.

But my point was their rankings are based solely on what the surfers on their site search for. It's a great way to know who the people that surf Freeones everyday are searching for... That's it. For all we know there may be several Asian pornstars or Black pornstars or Latina pornstars who are very popular amongst their own ethnicity and on sites dedicated to those niches but would never be reflected in a "general" freesite like that.

And yeah, it's a big site and definitely reflects trends among the general populace. Most of their traffic is generated by people searching for pornstars to begin with because FreeOnes usually has the number one spot for most girls names (unless you are clever like some of us and do your work to make sure you are number one...even then they are right behind you)

You misunderstand what I said. It isn't a knock on Freeones. It's just the truth. Their rankings reflect what the people on Freeones search for. Nothing more, nothing less. And the majority of return traffic to a freesite, the guys who surf it over and over for YEARS...whether it be to Freeones now, or to us at AL4A and Ampland a few years ago...are not members of a website, they are freeloaders who are enjoying the free porn. These surfers may one day join...but for now they come back over and over and over for their favorite picture or movie from a gallery.

Nothing wrong with that either. I'm just stating that any website that has a top list...is only reflective of the people who use that site. That's just common sense. I mentioned FreeOnes because they are still one of the biggest free sites out there thanks to the thousands of girls they have listed and the search engine traffic that comes in from all those girls being searched on Google.

To Robbie: I agree with what you're saying there.
The way I see it, my site attracts pornstar enthusiasts; on my site they search for their favorites; I ranked the 100 most sought-after pornstars on my site in 2010. I don't claim this Top 100 list has any real scientific value, but it does give a nice impression of who's popular (for the people who visit my site).

Nice list Randy. Last year's version was part of my metric for the Starlet Sheet XII in the summer.

I decided to take a different approach, though, for The Top 50 Porn Stars of 2011

FYI, this is how the Starlet Sheet XII was compiled in the summer. I just pasted the the original post and added comments in parentheses.

Back in 2000, the magazine had a circulation of 328,000. After seeing it drop to 45K in 2008, they decided to go online only.
Evidently, their website is still hanging by a thread. They just chose their Dirty Dozen Top 12 Porn Stars. I’d include a hyperlink, but I don’t want to compromise my commitment to excellence.
Instead, I’m going to announce the Starlet Sheet Top 12 and I’m going to tell you exactly how they were determined.
The Starlet Sheet Top 100 is one of several smaller databases that will be offered in addition to the Starlet Sheet 300.
At the moment, the SS Top 100 is a composite of the following Top 100 lists.

1. The Top 100 of 2009 list from a high traffic website. The list was published in January 2010. (This was from porn-star.com)

2. The Top 100 of 2009 from a magazine/website. This list was also published in January 2010. (I don't have the spreadsheet handy and forget which site this was from)

3. The Top 100 searched over a 12 month period on a popular website targeted to fans. The list was pulled on 5/10. (FreeOnes)

4. The Top 100 searched over a 3 month period on that same website. List pulled on 6/10 (Free Ones)

5. The Top 100 from a very well done, high traffic website. List pulled on 5/27. The website does not indicate how the list was determined. (Define Babe)

6. The Top 100 searched on a high traffic website geared to both the industry and fans. List pulled on 5/27. Search data is for that day only, which is good because it provides a public ‘snapshot’. (Adult DVD Talk)

7. The Top 100 searched on website geared to fans. List is from 6/15 and is based on 6/14 searches. (Free Ones)

8. The Top 100 on a website that weighs info from monthly search engine, social networking, and name recognition data. I used their ‘active porn stars only” April 30th list. (Fame Registry)

9. The Top 100 from the June 1st list of the same website. They have an impressive metric, so I had no problem including them twice, but this time I used the one that also includes retired porn stars. I did that because if someone with limited knowledge was about to buy a DVD based on the porn stars they wanted to see in action, it would be an absolute travesty if Katja Kassin or Taylor Rain were not on the list they were using to make the decision. So, while the list is heavily weighted towards active stars, it also includes some that have retired. (Also Fame Registry)

10. My Top 100.

Together, these 10 lists combine to form the indisputable Top 100 Porn Stars of Summer 2010.

Here are some facts about the current set of lists.

Amazingly, a total of 328 different porn stars were on at least one of the above Top 100 lists.

Not including my personal list, there were 4 starlets who made the Top 10 on one list, but failed to crack the top 100 on 9 others. They were Jennifer White, Naomi Russell, Cytherea, and Gracie Glam

There were only 12 Porn Stars who made all 10 lists. They were (in alphabetical order):

Alexis Texas + Amy Reid + Ashlynn Brooke + Bree Olson + Eva Angelina + Jayden James + Jenna Haze + Lexi Belle + Nikki Benz + Sasha Grey + Shyla Stylez + Sophie Dee

I could have easily used the above 12 to counter the Maxim list, but felt it would be better to take the 12 highest average rankings of Porn Stars that were on 8 or more of the lists.

So, without further ado, I give you The Starlet Sheet Top 12 Porn Stars of Summer.

I continued to add random FreeOnes 'snapshots' and Fame Registry rankings to the spreadsheet in hopes of releasing a top 100 for the year, but the computer that it was on is fried, and I may have lost all of the data. It sucks.

One thing I do remember was that, with the exception of news driven Lupe Fuentes/Alexis Capri type anomalies, there was not much variance in the FO searches from one month to the next. Especially when looking at the Most Searches in the Past Week. Daily searches did have a slight bit more variance.

I'm not questioning their accuracy, but I think that having it laid out as they do causes waves and waves of new traffic to consistently search the same girls over and over again and that once a girl is able to crack the top 20 for non news based reasons, it's likely she'll be there for awhile.

I've played around with many numbers in trying to accurately measure 'popularity' but all methods have been flawed in one way or another. Along with with the fact that I may have lost all of that data (and more), that's pretty much why I just said fuck it and made up my own Top 50 for 2011. lol
