Just curious as to how many times it's happened, if ever, to someone else and end result?

Hasnt actually happened to me but Ive heard horrible stories...

Your shit lost?

ottopottomouse 01-07-2011 11:44 AM

Not lost but have had my suitcase look like it had been thrown off the top of a building. Was a tiny office in the airport that dealt with wrecked luggage and they replaced the suitcase.

TheLegacy 01-07-2011 11:46 AM

Heard too many horror stories so I only pack what I can carry in a carry-on

Rochard 01-07-2011 11:49 AM

Never happened to me. I've never lost any luggage on a flight.

I've also never been bumped off of a flight, had a flight canceled, or anything.

Worst thing that ever happened to me was my flight from Atlanta to Vegas was delayed by nearly an hour. I had a connecting flight in Vegas to Phoenix, and it was pretty clear to me as we landed in Vegas that I was going to miss my flight which should have taken off like ten minutes ago. As we were coming into the gate my name was called over the PA system, and I was called up front with my luggage - while the plane was still rolling. They told me that our gate was next to the gate of my departing flight, and that the moment they opened the door i was to go out, make a right, and right through the next gate.

I did this, got on my connecting flight, and the door was shut behind and the plane rolling before I sat down. I was impressed.

Yeah it's happened a few times to me over the years. Every single time, without fail, I've had my luggage delivered to my location no later than the next evening. Most often though it comes early the next morning.

I had an issue once where I had just gotten a new large luggage set and it was suedish on the outside... softy leather shit...

anyway I get the bag and it looks like it had been on one of those trollies on the tarmac and had fallen off to do some cartwheels across the tarmac. Then it Also looked like they had it on a conveyor belt and had gotten stuck because there were black strreaks alllll over that mother fucker. The corners and wheels were shredded from the tarmac tumble.

I go to the complaint desk or whatever... They do nothing and tell me I shouldnt buy nice luggage...

RyuLion 01-07-2011 11:52 AM

Good stuff.

It's never happened to myself, or anyone I know personally (knock on wood). However, I have heard some different horror stories from people in passing. None with a positive ending.

However, it sounds like they more a less took care of you straight away.
:thumbsup

I've had some delayed, and canceled flights. Been forced to stay over night, etc.. Today in fact, my flight to Vegas has been delayed because of the lovely weather.

However, 9 of 10 trips on average have went mostly accordingly to plan.

atom 01-07-2011 12:41 PM

Twice I've had it happen to me. Fortunately its always been when I've been heading home. I have also always had it delivered to me by courier within 48 hours of leaving the airport.

I guess the only real big pain in the ass is when i'm coming home from somewhere, I really just want to get in my car and go home, relax. Standing there like a dumbass after everyone else has left, hoping that my bag shoots out of the mystery tunnel sucks.

A co-worker of mine and I were on our way to internext in Hollywood, I think it was 2003 and they lost his bag. They gave him a little emergency kit plus some cash to go to the store.

The kit they gave him included, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste and clean underwear in case he had shit himself.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 01-07-2011 12:43 PM

They lost everything of my dad's once. They kept telling him they would find it, but he was at his destination and needed his things. They ended up paying him some $$$, I think around $350, but they never found his bags.

u-Bob 01-07-2011 12:52 PM

once.

got it back about 3 days later.

CC 01-07-2011 12:53 PM

Only happened to me once when traveling from London back to the USA. Somehow my suitcase wound up in France, but I got it about 5 days later and it was fine.

BestXXXPorn 01-07-2011 12:55 PM

A couple times... out of 60 or so but never permanently lost, it always arrived a couple days later :P

I HAVE however had a shit ton of stuff stolen out of my suitcase... some expensive shoes and pricey button downs :(

cooldude7 01-07-2011 01:03 PM

my cousin works at airport, told me , how his associates steals tuff from baggage, .
thief are mostly bag throwers/Baggage handler.,

TeenSluts 01-07-2011 01:08 PM

only do carry on

NetHorse 01-07-2011 01:49 PM

I've traveled a lot, so yes my luggage has been lost a few times. Usually it is found within a day or two, one time when I went to Amsterdam I had to make due without one of my bags for the entire trip. It wasn't returned and found almost a month later.

I guess someone mistook my bag for theirs and didn't bother to check for an entire month.:error

amateurbfs 01-07-2011 03:22 PM

I travel a few times a year and never had anything lost, I check bags nearly every time, too lazy for carry on. I have had the frames break on two suitcases so far though from rough handling or something.

baycouples 01-07-2011 03:51 PM

This is why I hate flying - the airlines are run like liquer stores

LeRoy 01-07-2011 03:53 PM

Once and they never found the bag :(

Full of clothes too!

aipmedia 01-07-2011 04:43 PM

ARGHH that's who lost my bag for a month! I guess you get what you pay for, I got a great deal booking with them to Amsterdam.

RaiderCash_Dominik 01-08-2011 12:27 AM

3 or 4 times. Twice last year.

ShellyCrash 01-08-2011 12:29 AM

I've never had it completely lost, though I've had it be MIA for several days and had to buy clothes, makeup, etc on the fly more than once. I used to only fly with what I could carry on, but ever since they started the liquids ban I have to check my bag.

I think I have bad travel juju though, shit happens to me on flights that no one else ever seems to get hit with. Like getting stuck overnight in connecting cities, arriving 24 hours before my bags do, having bags unpacked by TSA and missing worthless yet essential items like half of a laptop power cord, etc. I even had someone die on a flight once... Compared to some of you guys I don't even travel that much.

blazin 01-08-2011 04:07 AM

Air France lost my baggage en route to Rio de Janeiro during carnival season. They located it but then was unable to deliver it for 6 days and kept telling me to wait in for it... fucking cock suckers!

CurrentlySober 01-08-2011 04:15 AM

I travelled from LA to Tampa in 2003 for the 'NightMoves' Tampa Show...

The suitcase containing the wife's feature dancing outfits, didn't get loaded onto the plane.

Had to go back to the airport about 6 hours after arrival, to collect it, but it was waiting there safe and sound.

Kiopa_Matt 01-08-2011 04:21 AM

Just once, and thankfully it happened upon returning to Canada, so everything was fine. Went to the desk, filled out some paperwork, then was on my way. Landed in the morning, and late afternoon a courier service dropped it off at my brother's door, where I was visiting.

theking 01-08-2011 04:37 AM

The train lost my luggage and never found it. I had to replace all of my uniforms...at no small expense.

Iberia did the same to me in Barcelona.

CaptainHowdy 01-08-2011 10:12 AM

I never took a plane...

John-ACWM 01-09-2011 03:13 AM

Happy to say never.

Django 01-09-2011 04:42 AM

nice thread

DWB 01-09-2011 06:07 AM

Honestly, you have to be insane to check luggage. If you can't make it to where you're going with a nice size carry on, you're high maintenance.

Of course, there are exceptions to the rules when you HAVE to check something, but general travel.... pack light. No worries AND you are out of the airport in a jiffy.
