Anyone use Free to Air satellite with IKS? Might want to check this.
 

If you are not familiar, that is basically some technology that allows people to get dishnet satellite service for free, by sharing keys from a central server. These people typically pay a small monthly subscription for access to the service, and in return they get free satellite programming. (illegally of course)

If you use this service, you might want to check this out. Dishnet is cracking the whip and finally starting to go after end users.

I can't believe anyone would use one of these systems to begin with, they make it so easy to get caught in any number of ways. With the old FTA technology, it wasn't possible to go after the end users, since the FTA receivers were legal and it was basically impossible to prove who was downloading the files to hack them. They could only go after dealers who were selling the bins or installing them for people. When they switched to this Internet Key Sharing stuff, it was a whole other ballgame.

Maybe some of you might recall DirectTV doing the same thing years ago, suing end users personally. Reminds me of the current stuff going on with torrent users, except this is basically a cut and dried case for dishnet. Anyone that doesn't pay their settlement fee of $3500 is going to get ass-raped, since they have their credit card info on file.

I remember Direct doing it, and Bell too at one point with the cards. I used to FTA BEV and DishNetwork with a Coolsat 6k. Once they switched over to N3 I just started paying for Starchoice. I noticed when they started releasing those new fixes that require a 24/7 connection through your router. I didn't even consider it an option. Just asking to get busted.

Ya, leaving your IP out there on some server was a scary enough idea, but the morons that actually paid to join one of these IKS servers with their own credit card had to be crazy.

And $3500 isn't a very outrageous settlement offer either. I know before I called up Bell and cried to get a 20% loyalty discount, I was paying about $111 a month for all the channels. I assume dishnet is pretty close to the same. So you would have paid around $1300 a year for the service anyway.

They could have easily asked for more but I suspect they will get a lot more quick settlements by keeping the amount low.
