Beer Connoisseurs: Ever try Hoegaarden?
I've not tried Hoegaarden yet. But this is on the agenda for this evening.
What are your thoughts on this? Someone in the last Beer Connoisseurs thread said it was pretty good. http://www.serialmedia.com/hoegaarden.jpg |
decent beer.
|
Unfiltered white.. First bottle tastes good to me and then it starts to taste like medicine.
My friends and I have two bottles we keep passing back and forth from party to party. The stuff must be a good 5 years old. No one will drink it. |
Solid beer but seems to be the only beer that gives me a headache.
|
Can't stand wheat beer.
|
As far as I remember: Notes of citrus, refreshing, good summer beer. Pretty good, but I prefer German wheat beers.
|
Perhaps a little citrus, pretty light... tastes and looks lightly filtered. Almost non-filtered. Says "brewed with spices" on the bottle. It does taste like it has a hint of cloves, perhaps...
Overall not a bad beer. Certainly not my favorite, but decent none-the-less. |

One of my favorites!
|
Never tried that. My favorite however is Kronenbourg 1664. Great stuff. Sounds German but its actually French. Not so easy to find.

Hoegaarden during summer is good.. En Kronenbourg is even a better beer imho
|
I like it alot actually. Grows on you. They serve it in GIANT wide pint glasses at the pubs here. Makes you feel manly lol.

beer should never be served with fruit.
|
It's an awesome beer, especially ice cold on a sunny terrace.
When I go out I always have 1 or 2 in between the regular beers. It's a nice flavor changer. |
When I was traveling in London a few years ago I tried it for the first time; I liked it.
Also, it appeared to be the Budweiser equivalent at the London watering holes (served everywhere, beer of choice for folks that want cheap beer). |

very nice beer if out in the sun. ice cold with a slice of lemon and you feel the summer ;)
|
Me likey! Ya!
|
As many have said, outside, in the summer, slice of lemon. In a GLASS! Do not drink it from a bottle, it will never taste as good. Drink it from a standard hoegarden glass, ie wide and short glass, not a thin and high one. So you get all the flavor when you drink it...

I don't like it. Found nothing good about it. And I did not even like the packaging of the beer.
|
don't try it after drinking guiness - it tastes like old english furniture wax if you do
|
I like it. I prefer Erdinger Weissbräu, but slightly harder to track down.
|
Not that great...

I'm hardly a connoisseur but I like it a lot.. Only 1 or 2 at a time though, not something I would drink all night...
|

I prefer Rickard's white for that kind of beer :thumbsup |

Coriander and orange peel. Maybe a good recipe for a summer beer. Winter is time for stouts and lagers though I think.
|
it's a great beer, however i am dont drink beer for like 6-7 months
|
its best with a slice of lemon or a slice of orange in it
|
i refer to it as "donkey piss"
it's an insult |
From BA:
Witbier - A Belgian Style ale that's very pale and cloudy in appearance due to it being unfiltered and the high level of wheat, and sometimes oats, that's used in the mash. Always spiced, generally with coriander, orange peel and other oddball spices or herbs in the back ground. The crispness and slight twang comes from the wheat and the lively level of carbonation. This is one style that many brewers in the US have taken a liking to and have done a very good job of staying to style. Sometimes served with a lemon, but if you truly want to enjoy the untainted subtleties of this style you'll ask for yours without one. Often referred to as "white beers" (witbieren) due to the cloudiness / yeast in suspension. |
Try it and decide for yourself. Different people have different tolerances for alcohol. This means that throwing up, headaches, loss of memory and loss of speech may start at different times and different doses through the drinking process for different people. Good luck! Every beer has a different flavour that you might like.

Never understood why anyone would want to ruin their beer by putting some fruit in it.
</2 cents> |
If you like blond beer, then you'll like Leffe, Duvel and Erdinger.

And even better, it's so much less fizzy than most. |
