Dancing with the prisoners : Tom DeLay to serve 3 years in prison

top or bottom ?

Quote:

Austin, Texas (CNN) -- Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay will serve three years in prison on his November conviction on money laundering and conspiracy charges, a Texas judge ruled Monday.

Judge Pat Priest sentenced DeLay to three years on the conspiracy charge and five years on the money-laundering charge. But the judge will allow DeLay to serve 10 years probation with community service on the laundering charge in lieu of the prison sentence, and the two sentences will be served concurrently.

And he's out pending appeal which could take years. Which means he may never serve time in actual prison.

Yep. It took about 2 years worth of appeals before Snipes actually ended up in jail. I would imagine Delay will fight hard.

Bwah. If he actually goes to prison, it's hardly going to be a state or county jail. I had a client before who spent a few years in federal prison for financial fraud. He thought he was legit, but ended up in the grey a little too much for the FTC's liking.

I asked him about prison before, and he just said, "ohhh, it wasn't too bad, and more like a timeout". I guess the cells were open a good 16 hours a day, they just hung out with friends, watched TV, played bocchi, were asked to call the guards by their first name, etc.

lol@ 3 years in prison = 2 years ..with the first year in protective custody with his own cell in a minimum security federal prison aka 'club fed" ..and 1 year at halfway house.

he will be fine.
