While most go with CentOS 32 bit or 64 bit. You can always pick Debian, etc..

i have a forum that made me no money that all of a sudden started getting hit with a ddos attack and my host asked me to take the site down...the ddos attack was peaking at 100mbps but would be lower than that when it was sustained...do you think you guys would be able to mitigate it? im not even sure why its being attacked at all and i have a log of the attack happening if you have an email i could send the logs to that would be great

how much connections/sec they open? what kind of attack?
proably you can handle this scriptkiddy ddos attack with server hardening only... give them a try, google for: inetbase ddos script

If your forum is for small set of countries only, move to a DNS Service with Geo split service.
Install GeoIP on your server and do the same there, you can put this rules inside .htaccess.

Such small attack is not hard to fight server based as long the connections/sec are not too high.

A real hard fighting begins above 20 gbps :-)

That said, a $25.00 server is not going to be the best for your situation to be honest.

Be careful when dealing with Barefootsies guys, the guy is a known thief and loves to prey on new people, before this he was selling all sorts of get rich quick packages that failed.

Also remember that what might be 'included' in these servers is actually going to cost you extra, so ask questions and don't pay until you have everything in writing.

Your broke ass wants to buy a $25.00 budget server to mitigate a DDOS attack that is coming in at around 40-50mbps!?!? Furthermore, that you "claim" is for some forum, that makes no money mind you, and you are doing on 'principle'.

While I was nice enough, despite my personal feelings about you, to give you a solid recommendation. You can't afford that (no surprise).

Not only myself, but almost everyone in the thread said that null routing was the best option for you, and your broke ass budget. In addition to the 'facts' of your free forum on principal do not add up as to the why you would like to go to such lengths to keep it on line.

Knock yourself out. I always can use one more broke ass joke bumping my threads in the main forum sections. While you've done little to advance yourself or business (as obvious from your budget, or lack there of) in all your years in this industry. I've been here over a decade going strong.

While you've wasted your time and energy over the years trolling me from forum to forum, I've actually accomplished many things in this industry. If you had any business sense you'd realize that wanting to spend as little as possible is always a good choice. Just for future reference Debian is unable to be installed on to these. It seems CentOs is their only available OS.
