Which city in the United States has the most gays and lesbians?

San Fran

It is known for its gay community...but I wonder if it actually has the largest number of gays. I would suspect that more populated cities would have the largest number of gays but percentage wise Frisco could be number one. Are there any stats?

I would lean towards any overly liberal city... San Diego, Seattle, Santa Fe.... something about names with an S in it too :)

New Orleans has quite the gay crowd too. No idea of the numbers but it's always welcomed them.

I heard how every third citizen in San Francisco is gay.

Until the bar codes are put in place it is hard to actually know. When I worked for a gay/straight alliance they always listed New York, San Fran and Boston as the top three but how they knew that I be true I didn't know either.

Umm.... you're starting to sound as stupid as the right wingers. We aren't talking about politics, and even if we were, you can be extremely conservative, always vote republican and be a major liberal douche bag at the same time. Plenty of gay republicans running around, and you can be damn sure they extreme liberal views.

Do you have a point with your rant? Many deep red states/areas have very liberal type laws, ie: pot. It's American stupidity to confuse being liberal with a political belief.

Gay orgs claim that approximately 10% of the population is gay. I don't buy in to that percentage...I think it is probably more like 1% than 10%.

No stats that I know of.... but 1/3 of my staff is bi or gay, and easily over 10% of my friends are gay. However, nobody in my family is gay that I'm aware of.

What Czarina said on a per capita basis. I honestly did not notice it when visiting though. My wife at the time did get whistled at by other women though while jogging. I remember when I was about 11 and went to San Fran...First time I ever saw men wearing lipstick, holding hands and kissing. Being from the midwest it was quite the shocker.

I am in my fifties and have met thousands of people in my lifetime and I could count on my fingers those that were openly gay...and to the best of my knowledge I have never known anyone that was a closet gay...though I am satisfied that some probably were. Of course 12 years of my lifetime I spent in the Army and it is not a bastion for gay people...so only about 40 years really count in my life experience when it pertains to gays.

This board alone is about 40% gays.

I've never heard of anybody refer to San Diego as liberal. Liberal because it has a gay community? Iowa is one of the few states that allow gay marriage, it is not a liberal state or a gay friendly state.

Hillcrest has some kick ass food. Gays know how to eat.

In my life, that would be a very conservative number and would be more like 20 percent. That is especially if you include everybody on the spectrum from bi to gay. I am sure a lot of it has to do with who people socialise with in their lives. I believe that many people barely would know any openly gay people. On the other hand, others move in circles where they know a lot more gay people. When I go to visit friends I San Francisco, I think I have one straight friend there out of the whole group and the rest are gay or bi. .

It would be liberal because of the size of the community and the general acceptance of the population. Most of Cali is considered liberal, because of the views they have, not because of the laws - which many States have.

Iowa people probably are rather liberal, most people are across the entire Country. It's the media and some people, that twists being liberal as a left ideal, when it's not.

I'm pretty sure my stats don't count for much, this industry really tosses off the ratio.

When I was growing up, my parents had a gay friend and a kid in our school was known to be gay, but not directly open about it. After that, if you take out this Industry, my gay friend pool dries up rather fast.

I am bi, yes but I am married and stay within the marriage.

There was one kid in my High School that every one claimed was gay...but he was not openly gay. When he became an adult it in fact became known that he was gay. He was at a class reunion I attended about six or seven years ago. I was told that since the reunion he has died...but from being over weight and diabetes...not HIV. How many others when I was in High School may have been and still are closet gays I have no way of knowing.

It is because...in my life experience...I have encountered a sparsity of gays...that I have never bought into the 10% of the population is gay. I think it is 1% or even less.

I believe I heard on the news that according to the latest census the most gay city is Minneapolis, Mn:winkwink:

And while it's not a huge metropolitan city, I would bet Wilton Manors, Florida has one of the higher % of gay to straight ratio's in the US.
