going after the real threat. :2 cents:

these guys are awesome - they don't need a content summit to tell them what's going on and to take action through the ONLY channel that *might* work against piracy - the COURTS.

this is a huge case - it's Hotfile, Fileserve, Filesonic, Oron, etc and their mushrooming affiliate army of bloggers and forum owners who are the far bigger enemy than tube sites and torrents.

This could be a good one.

Filesonic is growing leaps and bounds, now have more DMCA's going to them than rapidshare.

Those sort of sites are collectively like a hydra though. Chop off one head and two more appear.

I bet this anton guy is not anywhere near US jurisdiction. All that data is in whois info and most likely just his po box or fake.

yep and there are companies from within our industry who are starting new ones up - the affiliate programs are becoming slicker.

for legal reasons none of the file hosting sites have an index or search engine to find what's on their servers - they let others like Google and Filestube do the dirty work.

arghhhhh - i could spend all day doing nothing but dealing with these sites. Oron is the one that is fucking with me the worst and I would love to sue - I will be following this case closely to see if it's worth suing. if they dig deeper they will discover that the file hosts are also buying up forums and blogs. the little thieves who do all the uploading will switch file hosting companies for a better deal. i've seen a guy who is one of the biggest Japanese video uploaders change the file hosting company he uses a bunch of times - once a file hoster becomes big it works against them, most of the surfers who download an uploader's files will already have a premium membership so the uploader doesn't get his % of a premium membership.

from the xbiz article-
Quote:

The suit charges copyright infringement and civil conspiracy against Hotfile, Titov, Lemuria, Paypal and the 1,000 unnamed Hotfile customers, who were named as John Does to the suit.

Filed at U.S. District Court in Miami, the suit seeks an injunction and damages against the defendants, as well as to freeze assets in Hotfile's Paypal account.
i really hope this makes paypal take a GOOD LOOK at some of the people they are doing biz with. cut off their monetary exchange system, make them unprofitable...they die.

i can see new legislation coming down the pike very soon which will make doing things online like using paypal much harder, and this will be a good thing. i'm willing to go thru extra hoops if it means stifling the pirate fuckers.

Exactly!! If they can't pay people to upload illegal files to their server, these types of sites will die rather quickly imo, we can only hope.
