Cockroaches may be on the McDonalds Menu

Sounds far fetched? Think about this: the Earth's population is blowing up at an alarming rate. However, agricultural efficiency is fast approaching a saturation point. What's the solution? INSECTS FOR FOOD.

No joke. While it takes 10 pounds of grain to produce 1 pound of beef, the same amount of grain produces 6 to 8 pounds of INSECT MEAT.

Low cholesterol. Low fat. Just chunky, nutty, insect goodness. :Oh crap:helpme Not out of the realm of possibility to see ROACHES on the Mickey D menu in the future...

Here's more BONUSES with an insect diet:

Insects are abundant, produce less greenhouse gas and manure, and do not transfer any diseases, when eaten, that can mutate into a dangerous human form, say the researchers.

BIGTYMER 01-23-2011 10:19 PM

I like chocolate covered crickets.

Seth Manson 01-23-2011 10:54 PM

Not really any worse that eating lobsters, crabs, or shrimp I suppose.

Yep. They are all arthropods. Maybe with the right genetic modification, a slab of farmed and processed insect meat might taste just like crab meat or processed shrimp. What's really EYE-POPPING about Insects is their AMAZING feed conversion ratio. Mammals = 1 in 10. Insects 6 to 8 in 10.

Chosen 01-23-2011 11:38 PM

Fuck cockroaches...

AzteK 01-23-2011 11:42 PM

cherrylula 01-24-2011 07:16 AM

It's easy enough not to eat meat. Or McD;s.

loreen 01-24-2011 07:56 AM

Maybe they mutate them first and then we'll have 20lb cockroaches... :eek7

Quite right lobsters, crabs and other crustaceans are simply insects of the sea. I would have no problems with certain varieties of insects for consumption. The pros are: much less fat and they are a helluva lot easier to breed and grow.

Yeah, but I can produce 20 pounds of cum from only 1 pound of my "meat".

So eat a bucket of that.

" "The question really should be: 'Why do we NOT eat insects?," said Dicke, citing research that the average person unwittingly eats about 500 grams of bug particles a year anyway -- in strawberry jam, bread and other processed foods. "

PBJ & B to the rescue!

Barry-xlovecam 01-24-2011 11:41 AM

Would you like to super-size your fried bugs?

closer 01-24-2011 11:47 AM

just be a veggie or, if you love the taste of meat that much, have at least 1 meatless day per week and we could go on like this for at least another 50 years

I've been trying to do at least one meatless day p/week lately.

It really isn't that tough to do.... you can still get the protein from eggs, nuts, beans, fish, cheeses, etc.

I'd like to bump the number of meatless days up to two or three a week this year. Meat is really not very good for you - even though it is delicious.

Food is going to become an issue in our lifetime. Water too. The only reason we can support the current world population is because of recent changes in agriculture that allows us to produce a lot more. At some time we'll reach a point where we cannot grow enough food to support the world population.

Water will be the first problem. We already have entire states here in the US fighting over water rights. Countries are the same too.

Phoenix 01-24-2011 12:10 PM

i dont think we have reached a saturation point at all for producing food.
There are vast farmlands that aren't even being used..and since the temperature is warming up more farmland is about to open up around here.

the issue is, we need more farmers.

John-ACWM 01-24-2011 01:23 PM

Many love to eat insects from ages.

beerptrol 01-24-2011 01:37 PM

Cockroaches would probably end up on their menu before anything healthy would

The irony is, cockroaches ARE reasonably healthy for you. Certainly much more so than the "meat" you are purchasing at fast food joints like Mickey Dee's.

thickcash_amo 01-24-2011 04:03 PM

since I already dont eat there, passing this up wont be an issue

Quite disturbing. It's protein plus they mask the flavor. Kinda like insect tofu?

You can fit the ENTIRE population of the World into L.A. - The exposed land on earth is 99% empty of humans. We have enough ready to farm lands this minute, to handle double the population of earth - the problem is meat!

Water wise, almost this entire planet was frozen at one time and we still didn't run out of water... the water NEVER goes anywhere, it can never leave, it's always recycled... The glass of water you drink today contains filtered dinosaur piss, well it's not like the water is new, so.....

Exactly. High food costs = inflation = political unrest.

2MuchMark 01-24-2011 08:18 PM

Lots of people eat bugs. It's not my think and I doubt it'll ever get that far into western culture but lots of bugs are high in protein and are good for you.

$5 submissions 01-24-2011 10:44 PM

Crabs & Lobster = cockroaches of the sea.

raven1083 01-25-2011 12:17 AM

Martin 01-25-2011 01:16 AM

If people only knew what they spray on meats that we eat they wouldn't be sickend by the idea of eatting a few bugs.
