Wasn't it the Caldera Volcano in the movie 2012 ?

Scientists are predicting that the world's largest super-volcano in one of America's most popular national parks could erupt in the near future.

Yellowstone National Park?s caldera has erupted three times in the last 2.1million years and researchers monitoring it say we could be in for another eruption.

They said that the super-volcano underneath the Wyoming park has been rising at a record rate since 2004 - its floor has gone up three inches per year for the last three years alone, the fastest rate since records began in 1923.

It would explode with a force a thousand times more powerful than the Mount St Helens eruption in 1980.

Spewing lava far into the sky, a cloud of plant-killing ash would fan out and dump a layer 10ft deep up to 1,000 miles away.

Two-thirds of the U.S. could become uninhabitable as toxic air sweeps through it, grounding thousands of flights and forcing millions to leave their homes.

But hampered by a lack of data they have stopped short of an all-out warning and they are unable to put a date on when the next disaster might take place.

When the eruption finally happens it will dwarf the effect of Iceland?s Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which erupted in April last year, causing travel chaos around the world.

I'm likely only on this planet for about 80~ years. This means I don't worry about things that happen every 700,000 years.

It's late erupting on the time schedule by 100k years. So any day now.

yeah i've been aware of that for awhile...the interesting part is that it has been rising alot more in the last few years.

hydroponic weed growers would become super rich...they would need to switch to food and charge in gold bars..lol

What do they suggest we do about it?

There's a movie that has been on TLC or PBS a few times called "SuperVolcano" based on this idea. It's a big budget "TV movie" thats actually pretty good. They use some hard science mixed in with some drama and present it in a documentary style. Better than most TV movies and worth watching. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419372/

it would put us into an ice age for years... stock up on guns, warm clothes, spam, oh and water! ;)

Its kind of shocking news, saw the news article in the morning. I mean as a end result 2/3 of the US gone that's pretty heavy stuff.

how do you stock up on food and water for 20-50 years? the answer is you can't..

My prediction, we will all live long and boring lives while volcanologists, astrophysicists, geologists and politicians will use fear tactics to generate revenue to keep themselves from becoming irrelevant.... because in reality, nothing they study, write about or say has anything to do with the present or foreseeable future.
