Raw food

Any GFYers that are into raw food? What's your experience?

I love how I feel when I go raw, I'm sharp, awake, energized.
I'm trying to stay on it but sometimes I do indulge in meat and dairy :)

Sly 01-25-2011 09:07 AM

Raw chicken is the best.

closer 01-25-2011 09:09 AM

raw foods are the most tasteful but contain also the most unhealthy fats and amino acids, that's why it tastes richer :)

so, I sometimes go for the raw stuff, but in moderation!

CDSmith 01-25-2011 09:10 AM

Yup, you haven't lived til you've survived salmonella.

loreen 01-25-2011 09:11 AM

Uhm, when I say raw, I mean only vegetables, fruits, seeds, sprouts etc

Not raw meat :)

amateurbfs 01-25-2011 09:15 AM

xxweek eats raw meat. pussies. he's the best, says so in his sig.

Sly 01-25-2011 09:16 AM

What exactly does a raw diet consist of? Map out a plan for us.

I've thought about trying veggie for a week, numerous times, just to see what kind of differences I notice. I have a difficult time thinking of what I would eat aside from pasta.

dyna mo 01-25-2011 09:18 AM

i eat primarily raw- seeds, berries, fruits, nuts, vegetables.

but i also eat cottage cheese, beef, chicken, fish, eggs and protein powder.

i like it, it works for me, after about 9 months to a year now i've acclimated, i don't really crave junky foods anymore, i eat what i want to eat when we go out, just the meals cooked at home are uber healthy, which means 80+% of what i eat is raw & 90+% is nutritionally ideal.

i've also moved away from eating 6+ meals a day and am back to eating 3 square meals a day, between 1pm and 9pm, so no food from 9pm to 1pm, then ~3000 calories in 8 hours.

CaptainHowdy 01-25-2011 09:20 AM

Ok........

dyna mo 01-25-2011 09:26 AM

i've tried the raw meat thing, but honestly, that grass-fed organic beef tastes like crap to me & it's $20/pound. i don't see the benefit. from what i understand, all nutrients are ~roughly the same, but the grass fed organic just does not have hormones/antibacterials.

and at this stage of the game, i really don't think eating hormone injected beef is doing any serious damage to me. i.e., stopping eating regular beef would not have as serious impact as say, going gluten-free did.

loreen 01-25-2011 09:28 AM

The raw food diet is a diet based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, nuts, dried fruit, and seaweed.

That's all.
I usually eat large salads (sometimes with cooked fish), olives, lots of seeds, fruit.
I haven't been on it for long, but those who went raw for life have a lot of receips, they make raw cakes (with caju / almonds / cocoa / coconut / fruits), raw pasta, raw meatloaf, raw anything :)
They're delicious:
http://rawexperiences.typepad.com/my_weblog/raw-cakes/

and you really feel out of this world. Just one week is enough to feel the effects, last time (I was on it) 3-4 hours of sleep / night were more than enough to feel great for the whole day :)

I meant it as: sometimes I go off the raw diet and eat those :)

Tom_PM 01-25-2011 09:30 AM

It's probably easy to eat a mostly raw diet when you have fruit/oatmeal for breakfast, some nuts and fruit for snacks. Salad and greens for lunch. Pick up a grain mill and you can have raw fresh flour and breads.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

And to the OP how the hell is drinking dairy going off the raw diet?
Are talking about raw vegan? Raw goat milk is amazing. And if you really want to feel like superman you can buy grass fed raw unfrozen bison hearts from northstar bison ranch in Wisconson. They ship next day and they don't ruin the meat by freezing it. Chop it up and pour on flaxseed or hemp oil, slice up an avocado and you are golden.

Fruit is absolute bullshit. Fruit does jack shit for humans other than give them lots of sugars. Dark green leafy veggies are good. Meat and eggs that have been produced from animals eating grass and other things they would eat if just left alone out in a pasture are the best foods for giving humans the vitamins and minerals they need.

You can also order raw almonds directly from the farm. http://www.organicpastures.com
Make milk from the almonds. 99% of almonds are pasteurized and are worthless to eat. Also 99% of almonds that saw raw on the package are not really raw.

Eat Chlorella morning and night. This brand is best. http://www.amazon.com/Sun-Chlorella-.../dp/B0011FT9U0

Bread, pasta, rice etc are bullshit.

You need fat with your veggies for your body to process them properly. Ignore the idiots who say to stay away from all fats. Natural fats are good for you.

Eat this way for one one month and you will feel reborn.

Now anyone reading this has zero excuse for feeling like shit, being a fat fuck, or being depressed.

If yo don't believe me then feed your dog this diet for one month and he/she will have the energy of a puppy again.

Almost everyone will fail on this type of diet unless they have someone to help them stay on it.

You are WELCOME

i could live with this one, granted the meats are cooked that is :)

i'm a junk food junky though.. i hate it but its true. I keep it in check, but i always know its there waiting to take over.. hehe

baddog 01-25-2011 09:34 AM

A few years ago I went raw for several months as a sign of solidarity with my daughter. It was one of the toughest diets (or life changes) that I have ever tried, but the results were amazing.

Sure, I lost weight with it, but the biggest change was that it totally eliminated my acid reflux. I used to keep big jars of TUMS and Rolaids handy at all times. It used to be terrible at night. Then one night, I noticed that I was not needing them any more.

Even after I stopped the raw food diet the acid reflux stayed away.

you make some good points. however. fruit is not bullshit and supplies vital micro-nutrients and natural fiber- both of which are sorely lacking in the typical american diet.

it's a advertising generated myth that fruit is bad and only supplies sugar. in fact, weight watchers just recently removed fruits from its carbohydrates listing and all fruit = 0 points with an emphasis on eating as much fruit as you can.

and my personal experience reflects this, i eat ~9 pieces of fruit per day and i felt the energy/health/wellness difference when i made that change.

loreen 01-25-2011 09:40 AM

*******, I eat Chlorella, Spirulina and Kelp everyday :)
Amazing superfoods.

Raw milk is fine sometimes, I was talking more about processed cheese and similar stuff.

here's the thing about processed cheese- how far back in the processing do you want to/afford to go?

because ultimately there's raw milk cheese, at ~$15-$20/pound. ugh. i love good sharp cheddar on my hamburger, but i also don't like paying more than $6/pound for any one sort of food.

so processed cheese it is.

My hormonal levels don't like cheese or milk too much, so I don't eat them. At least I try not to :) Simple as that.

candyflip 01-25-2011 02:12 PM

Never fed a dog the same diet as I eat. Just fed the dogs raw free range (real free range not the bullshit that is sold in supermarkets) eggs and grass fed bison.

On a side note, soy is complete bullshit. This is fucking peasant food that has been marketed to the trendies as "health food" when in reality it is mostly GMO crap and is actually dangerous to infants.

As far as fruit...yes of course there are benefits but certain veggies usually have much more benefit with much less sugars.

Peace 01-25-2011 03:48 PM

We love and make raw food. Experience only best. we call it live food as well. good direction for you ))

Hmmm, might try it then. My damn esophagus feels like it barely exists anymore except for a little part that burns every night. Tired of buying nexium.

Raw Food is just another word for Vegetarianism.

I`ve been on the Montignac and also the Paleolithic diet (I sort of mix them together) since about 2003. I eat lots of fruits and vegetables, but also meat, chicken and fish. And sometimes nuts. Thats about it.

blonda80 01-26-2011 04:02 AM

don`t tell me raw food is your energy secret
i ate so many weird stuff because of you, now you make me want to try it and i hate the idea lol

Vegetarianism allows you to cook stuff.

Just one week and then you'll know :pimp

maxxtro 01-26-2011 06:36 AM

Looked it up on wikipedia and there seems to be different kinds of Raw Food diets. Some allowing different kinds of meat and fish, so maybe it isn't purely a vegetarian diet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raw_food

And sure, uncooked vegetables will keep their nutritional value better than cooked ones.

pradaboy 01-26-2011 07:14 AM

Can you give some examples of the raw veggies you eat? I can imagine bell peppers or something, but eating raw broccoli, cauliflower?

Also I have an IBD, so anything "rough" will mess me up. Very interested in raw food though.

loreen 01-26-2011 09:53 AM

Uhm, raw veggies: cucumbers, tomatoes, green salad, celery, carrots, radishes, cabbage, onion, garlic. This is what I eat almost every day.

You can put the ones you don't think you can eat raw in a smoothie.

And raw broccoli is delicious! Really, try it :) Or cut it and mix it with avocado and some oil, very tasty!

thehand 01-26-2011 10:51 AM

I got this book for Christmas: http://www.amazon.com/Raw-Food-Detox.../dp/0060799919 Starting it Monday, I'll let you know how it goes:thumbsup

I am unsure about how raw food would effect IBD, but if your doctor advised you to stay away from roughage you shouldn't do a raw diet.

I have ulcers, part of what the docs told me is no raw veggies at all. Not even salad. Kinda kills a raw diet for me.

d-null 01-26-2011 11:32 AM

Right now I just do breakfast raw, brocolli, spinach, seeds, peppers, etc. I love raw milk too but it is getting harder to find here.
Whole foods has a raw section for bars and things.

Tom_PM 01-26-2011 11:43 AM

Dont forget snow peas or sugar snap peas or pea pods by any other name. Usually prolific producers, sweet and you just pick and eat. Cooking them would be a shame even if you weren't into any special diets or whatever.
