State of the Union speeches do not mean much in the scheme of things

...but I feel the need to say that the President's State of the Union last night...I grade as a D.

I didn't watch it myself thought I would just wait and see what all of GFY thought about it.

I don't like Obama as a president but even I wouldn't give a shit about his speech. I wouldn't judge him on the speech at all.

I was watching a documentary on the Panama Canal a few days ago. It talked about how Roosevelt was the first president to take a trip abroad etc. and how the workers and lead engineers when they heard his speech were inspired and started to believe that the project could indeed be done.

not really saying anything other than very few leaders have that inspirational "thing" about them anymore. Most of the public views them as talking puppets. But any half decent leader a speech in general should inspire a country to do better.

these days that just does not happen very often.

I love how they mixed up the blue and red so that when they didn't stand up, no one would notice, still noticed that when he brought up don't ask don't tell, the joint chiefs didn't stand

I didn't catch that.

They made a big deal about it, some called it prom date. Before the dems would sit on one side and the gop on the other, so when one side would stand and cheer, the other side wouldn't. Depending on what Barry said.
All the military brass didn't stand for the DADT, but stood for most everything else. The court justices I don't remember if they stood at all

You've confused the difference of what YOU think and what most people think again. If most of the people thought this who would go to the rallies? their college buddies?

You are right though, every country needs a leader to motivate them in any way they can. If all they have is their speeches and not followed up by action? Then they are a poor leader.

Honestly it's just more of the same from Washington DC. Both sides blame each other while the truth is they are more interested in beating each other than serving the public that elected them.

When was the last time both sides did something constructive together?

Of course it doesn't mean much. I remember. 20 years ago daddy Bush promised to land astronauts on Mars by 2019. We know that aint happening.
