WASHINGTON ? Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio is suing a congressional cafeteria for dental damage he says he suffered after biting into an olive pit in a sandwich wrap he bought there.

Kucinich's attorney, Andrew Young, declined to comment Wednesday on the lawsuit seeking $150,000 in damages from companies involved with the Longworth House Office Building cafeteria. A spokesman in Kucinich's congressional office also declined to comment.

The civil suit filed earlier this month in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia said the wrap "contained dangerous substances, namely an olive pit," that a consumer would not reasonably expect to find in the product served. The suit said that Kucinich suffered "serious and permanent" dental and oral injuries requiring multiple surgical and dental procedures.

Kucinich's lawsuit said the Ohio Democrat bought the sandwich on or about April 17, 2008. He is seeking damages for "past and future medical and dental expenses, compensation for pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment and other damages."

The liberal congressman made an unsuccessful bid for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

Two of the companies named in the suit, Compass Group USA Inc. and Performance Food Group Co., declined comment through spokespersons.

That's a bad example when one reads the details of the incident. Injury to her genital area was very severe. McDonald's was, reportedly, aware their coffee serving temperature was far hotter than what was customary for other drive-through establishments.

A better example of frivolous lawsuits is the lawyer who sued the dry cleaners for millions for messing up his dry cleaning.

The McDonald's lawsuit was kind of a weird one. It was not a one off screw up, it was a repeat offense that they were told to fix yet they did not. Kind of like three strikes, you're out. This lady just got the benefit of it I guess you could say. I think a better way for the courts to handle that might have been to make McDonald's give a large proportion of the penalty money to charity and give her some money for her troubles, but they did what they did.

She sued McDonald’s, and with the help of a clever attorney, managed to convince a jury that it was all McDonalds’ fault for not providing adequate warning that hot coffee is indeed hot, and can scald you. The lady walked away with a multi-million dollar award.'

but in reality, the 'benefit' she got was 3rd degree burns to 16% of her body, requiring hospitalization for 8 days and sworn statements before God that the doctor had never, ever seen scalding so bad

exactly...I hate when people cite this case as a frivolous lawsuit....99% of people THINK they know the details of the case, but are not even remotely understanding of what actually happened...

I never heard of her burns being that severe. If true, they all should get some of that money.

Not only did she spill it but she did so because she put the cup between her legs to hold while driving.

Yeah, that McD's coffee was made the butt of so many jokes (Carson loved to pick on it) that a lot of folks dont realise how severe her burns were. Pretty nasty.
