If you were seeking a serious relationship.....
If you were seeking a serious relationship, and you decided to use one of the online dating websites and were willing to become a paid up member, which one of the following dating websites would you join?
a) A general dating website that covers all the world and has millions of members. B) A general dating website that was country orientated, (example, United States only) (though less members then a) C) A general dating website that was targeted to just your city. (though less members then a and b) |
Not sure if I'd be willing to relocate or if I'd expect someone to relocate for me.
A.) for meeting people B.) meet/date c.) date/hook up. |

Craigslist is successful, because it is location oriented. Nobody in San Diego, looks to Ohio to buy a desk or used air conditioner or whatever.
I vote C. |
All of the above. Throw a lot of bait out there and you are bound to catch something (hopefully not a STD).
But if I had to choose, (C). (A) has too many fake or inactive profiles. |
The site with the most local members would probably appeal the most to users.

See......

I agree with WiredGuy on this. The site with the most members will ultimately have the most prospects for ANY region... ruling out any other options.
I met my girlfriend on Yahoo Personals, btw. Worked great, and all I had was a free 1 week trial. :) |
Show up at the club at around 1:30am after all the douche bags have spent their cash on chicks. Buy yourself a jack and coke, ditch the straw. Walk around and pick up some stragglers.
OR rent a really expensive car and sit outside the bar at this time and ask if chicks "want to party". Make sure you have champagne back at your house. DO NOT spend more than $30 on these hoes. And make sure to use phrases like "O 1962 is a great year for this bottle". Then you are in. |

If I were seeking a serious relationship I'd either start seeing whores again or leave the fucking States.
|
If I were seeking a serious relationship I'd get the fuck off the internet and go meet some real people.
(internet people aren't real.) |

B or C
for B.) okcupid.com or match.com for C.) gooddatela.com |
A dating site would be the last place I would go looking for a serious relationship.
|
I guess C) A general dating website that was targeted to just your city. (though less members then a and b)

There are lots of places to meet girls. Bars, pubs, clubs (not strip clubs but clubs that specialise in things you like) malls, shops, street, etc. Where there are women there are possible dates. Here's a few tips. Think of women as your equals. Respect. Understanding. Humor. Introduce yourself with a smile and ask non invasive questions that get a girl talking about herself. Be interested in what she has to say. It's not the first line that matters, it's every line after that. Your appearance. It's cheaper, far more fun and better than meeting someone online. |

I'm internationalist btw... |
forget about pay dating sites, use okcupid.com
|
I think there are many benefits of looking for someone in your local area, such as:
- Person lives close to you - Person visits other places that you visit - It's possible to meet many times - Other local effects may apply |

This is like asking which porn site to go to...
a) A general porn website that covers all the world and has many different races. B) A general porn website that has specific focus on a race C) A general dating website that targets on specific part of the body |
If I found myself in a situation where I was looking for a serious relationship, my first port of call would be the doctors office for a full psychological examination. Seriously...
But if YOU are... Then C |
C is lame... you can't create really successful localized dating sites because "local" is a geographical impossibility... e.g. if you're in California but on the east side then west CA would be less local than another state which borders to the east... Same thing for a city... Full featured dating sites (read, worth a shit) use spatial indexing to solve this problem...
Also, localized sites won't attract nearly the crowd that a larger dating site does which means... less revenue, less features, and less popularity... given that the company running the ship is worth their salt... Best thing out there right now as far as product goes is OKCupid... Their stock is consistently growing as well. I'll go ahead and say right now they're headed for industry domination. They've only recently begun to monetize their product and they're ripping out great changes to their product and model pretty damned quickly. |
Dating sites are great for people who are searching for a fling or for people who enjoy the act of dating. Honestly the majority of online dating is superficial. No matter what is contained in a profile it's more about pictures and physical attraction.
If someone is seeking a serious long term relationship and they want to search online I advise people to find what they are passionate about and go for message boards. It seems like there are forums for almost every aspect of life- from art, to music to video games. If you want to find someone you're compatible with what better to start with than what you're passionate about or most enjoy doing in your spare time. That's my opinion anyway. |

Generally, people signing up to eharmony are looking for a serious, long term relationship and are seriously committed to their search for finding someone. The 200 some odd question "personality test" as a barrier for entry to a degree insures this. The thing is about as quick and painless as taking the SATs and weeds out anyone who might be interested in the service as a passing fancy. People who find success on eharmony generally skew older and are looking to settle down. The fear of being alone is a powerful motivator, if you take that away I don't think it works as well. Just my :2 cents: |
Facebook.
We've been together almost three and a half years. Before Facebook was the thing, MySpace ... also had LTRs from there. They key is you are already in the same network and are likely to have more in common. |
