In wordpress, do you use a plugin to mask affiliate links or just php?

Which way is better/easier, and if you use a plugin list it or php show an example of the code.

Jdoughs 01-28-2011 12:22 PM

If you want to redirect/mask affiliate links on your own wp, I would check out this one.

http://blairwilliams.com/pretty-link

It allows you to create links (add a url, make it look like --> blog.com/whatever) and also counts total hits out on those links (hit/unique).

Houdini 01-28-2011 12:31 PM

Manually creating a redirect for every link can be pretty time consuming. I've been using the Maxblogpress Ninja Affiliate script http://www.mbpninjaaffiliate.com/ ($37) on a few blogs and it works well, but the one above looks like it does just about everything too and it's free. I'd probably go with that one.

TylerBang 01-28-2011 12:44 PM

You said "Mask" correct? Not just cloak.

Try this. Free.

But it will only mask the addy bar url using frames (which your landing page may or may not break out of)

loreen 01-28-2011 01:12 PM

I don't use anything, but I know I should :)

iSpyCams 01-28-2011 01:20 PM

Why is this necessary? Should I feel bad about my naked links?

I think a lot of surfers deliberately cull the domain link out of an affiliate link just to screw the webmaster.

BSleazy 01-28-2011 03:49 PM

I thought pretty links had to remove the cloaking option to remain on the wordpress site but it looks like its there now.

Agent 488 01-28-2011 04:00 PM

affiliate link masking is huge in mainstream marketing as they actually think a surfer knows what an affiliate link is as well as paranoia about seo penalties.

JosephFM 01-28-2011 04:08 PM

There a pretty good free script made for adult webmaster for this purpose at http://www.bigdotmedia.com

It has some nice features :)

Supz 01-29-2011 05:46 PM

ive used gocodes before. seems to work pretty well. doesnt have many features.

Frasier 01-29-2011 05:49 PM

I've got prettylink on a few sites, going to check out the one fris posted up.

Miguel T 01-29-2011 07:32 PM

I use GoCodes, works fine, easy to setup, plus, has a "hit" counter, letting you view which ones get more clicks.

Lamis 01-29-2011 08:20 PM

makes no sense to mask the link... no surfer will take the effort to cut down the code and paste the clean url.

only an adult webmaster can do that, since most are broken right now and full of resentiment.

TELL THE TRUTH, If you are looking to mask and hide your aff code. its because you plan to do some heavy blackhat shit.. get some balls and tell the truth already.

Ask FRIS-TOPHER; he's the expert on these dirty tecniques.

Wrong. I do it so that when some company decides not to pay me, closes down, changes their terms, or otherwise somehow pisses me off that I can change every link associated with them by changing one line.

masking = blackhat now?

its just a short link like domain.com/paysitename

you will see many sites doing this, even the whitest of white.

you are the one full of resentment alex.

The way that I do it is really easy.

Say you create a php file called tonylinks and put it on your server.

Code:

<?php

$path = array(

"paysitename1" => "http://www.actual-link-code",
"paysitename2" => "http://www.actual-link-code"

);

if (array_key_exists($_GET["id"], $path))
    header("location: " . $path[$_GET["id"]]);

?>

You can add as many lines with variables to it as you want, just make sure that the last one does not have a comma after it.

Imagining that you had placed the tonylinks.php file in your www.hotchicks.com directory, then when you want to link to Paysite #1, your link would be

http://www.hotchicks.com/tonylinks.php?id=paysitename1

If you ever need to redirect the traffic to someplace else, just change the actual link code in the php file.

Si 01-30-2011 07:34 PM

pretty link all the way!

you don't need the premium version if you just want to mask links IMO

In another thread you posted that the max you did in adult was in year 2006 and you did 14K profit at max. That was more than normal for any average gallery submitter back then.

So don't try to convince other webmasters that you are a player now... You barely break even to have a basic living in CANADA, CHRIS MC-Gay... You don't drive a ferrari and you don't own a mansion.. oh and you are FULL OF SHIT, sucker.

Don't try to convince webmasters that adult is better than ever, just to SELL THEM your shitty pre-build cookie cutter tubes like "thatrocks"... 99% of the sites you build and then sell for inflated sums, then die... Just go and do a review of your ex-domains where you built shitty tubes.

Again, you are full of shit dirty sucker.

ottopottomouse 01-31-2011 11:47 AM

php, similar way to selena

why dont you post your stats for everyone to see?

thatrocks was the only tube i ever sold to mrvids, and i didnt inflate the price, i have sold loads of sites to mrvids over the years im sure he can speak for it.

you keep saying my name in threads where I dont even post, why is that alex?

You obviously have a hardon for something, times must be tough in argentina.

Why dont you post some stats.

RTP 02-01-2011 09:43 PM

the way selena mentioned works great if you are going to do it, makes it easier to organize and change if needed...

not really of big concern unless you just want short urls

:2 cents:

Really, its not about MASKING the links. Its about easily changing them once the program you promoted 5 years ago - or last month - starts ripping you off by just vanishing, or changing link codes.

One click site-wide link changes are good. The problem with Wordpress is that you have to go through hundreds of posts to fix links for sites that get sold, or change.

With a script or plugin, its easy to say "Fuck You!" right back at 'em. Changed your links? Buh-bye.
