this is crazy.. what happened to GFY?

I fuck off of adult for a couple years, come back and find GFY is pretty barren of webmaster activity. Is everyone finally working? Or is adult really that bad now?

Jdoughs 01-31-2011 06:37 AM

It's 8 am Monday morning on the East, and 5 am on the west.

It's never been a hot bed of activity this early.

L-Pink 01-31-2011 06:37 AM

The latter ....... :Oh crap

.

Barefootsies 01-31-2011 06:37 AM

You can find many of the old adult webmasters locally donning a paper hat.
:winkwink:

dropped9 01-31-2011 06:39 AM

most of the real webmasters got chased off by the trolls long ago...

GFY is what it is - I see u have been here since 2002 - you must have realized it before now.

cherrylula 01-31-2011 06:55 AM

actually, this sounds like a more plausible scenario :thumbsup

lazerbunny 01-31-2011 07:12 AM

I'd say that's likely the best answer as far as I can tell.

There are plenty of survivors, busy working and just not talking shit about it.

Brujah 01-31-2011 07:24 AM

There is no money in porn.

Antonio 01-31-2011 07:25 AM

Remember when we all used to joke that "there is no money in porn?"

Well, that's no longer a joke...

Sarah_Jayne 01-31-2011 07:41 AM

Monday mornings are dead zones generally. We all like to pretend we can still take long weekends.

Paul Markham 01-31-2011 08:32 AM

I'm only here for the free porn. Has became the truth.

Many joined the peace corps.

Agent 488 01-31-2011 09:43 AM

the trolls didn't chase off fuck all. the other "business" boards have one or two new posts a day now. a large majority of people have just packed it in.

czarina 01-31-2011 09:45 AM

lots of people have left the industry, and the ones that are here, well.... we're actually working now :)

plsureking 01-31-2011 10:18 AM

2010 was hell. i think a lot of webmasters are taking a slow start to the new year. it was much busier here during the last quarter of last year. quiet since the 1st.

.

signupdamnit 01-31-2011 10:25 AM

I would estimate 50-75% of paysite affiliates who were full time in 2007 have either fully left the business or are now part timers. Lots of others are gone too but it's mainly the affiliates who are responsible for the big drop in numbers on industry forums.

Agent 488 01-31-2011 10:31 AM

when i take a look at my old trade partners most of them are gone. figure it out.

The Porn Nerd 01-31-2011 10:35 AM

It's all your fault dude. Things were great til you returned now sales SUCK. :D

Yeah it seems like most are gone within a month. I remember quite a few coming back around the epass disaster. One guy seemed pretty big back in the day and appeared to be dedicated to getting back into adult. I checked and I haven't seen him post here in 3 months. He probably saw how shitty the conversions and CTR% were and ran for the hills!! Imagine time warping to 2011 from 2001 and dealing with this shit. 15% CTR and 1:200 ratios to 1.5% CTR with 1:2,000 ratios. Shit. That's literally 100 times the traffic required to make the same amount of money on average.

Emil 01-31-2011 11:38 AM

I've started working with mainstream-projects and barely work anything at all with adult these days. I bet many webmasters have done the same thing. I'm letting plenty of my adult domains drop and it's pretty sad since I've owed a couple of them since 2002.

It's also pretty sad to see the online adult industry die (not evolve) just like our community.

ya but traffic is hundreds of times cheaper than it was in 2001 and there's hundreds of millions more users online than in 2001. you just have to pump traffic 24/7, which is grueling work.

i was here then and im still here now. the career guys are still working.

its all cock and hole to me..

QFT! When I fantasize I dream about doing what I do now, exactly the same thing, only it's 2003 and I'm muthafuckin' RICH. Sigh.

Vegas Ken 01-31-2011 12:28 PM

Lots of things have changed over the past few years in our biz & networking is def one of them. I still find great value here at gfy, but I see Facebook & sites like Xbiz.net taking a piece of the gfy pie lately. However with the synergy of gfy & AWW, who know what plans are in place to re-energize the site here.

Traffic was pretty much there for the taking in that era. You didn't have to pay unless you wanted to (lazy). If you were willing to put in some work you could easily get traffic. Just submitting to the AVS would net 300 or more visitors a day from their own link list and they would convert like mad. 1,000 or more if you were lucky. There were multiple search engines which actually had traffic and far less competition. It was easy to get some hits right away and you weren't dependent upon Google. TGP's and link lists were at their peak. You could get (tens of) thousands of visitors from them daily with very little work and they converted at a 10th of the ratio that average traffic does now. One can still make money, sure, but it's a different game than 1999 or 2001. I'd definitely take 2001 over 2011 and I bet most would agree. :)

I would also like to submit for consideration the fact that we who were 21-25 'back in the day' are now 31-35 and have families and other priorities that take up what was previously our "fucking around" time.

lazycash 01-31-2011 01:56 PM

How do you expect us to type while we are all jacking off to the tubes?

Its always funny how people like you always find an explanation for everything..

MAN, accept the fact that adult is DEAD.. Most adult forums are dead.

Try to enter thinkreel.com, videosboard.com... Did you remember what those sites were in 2005?

GFY traffic has decreased 50% since 2005, BUT internet traffic has increased 300% since then.. so, what explanation do you find here? HUH?

When will you accept that FACT? The day you have lost everything and you are asking for pennies in the street?

d-null 01-31-2011 08:35 PM

I noticed a slowdown here that has never recovered around the time of the tube skin controversy

I'm sure there is plenty of space for everyone on GFY. It's not like GFY is a small room in real life with a limit of people that can fit inside. Good luck!
