iPhone pre-orders through Verizon began 12am PST. Anyone upgrade?

I always said if the iPhone was available with Verizon I'd get it again! I took advantage of $50 off since I qualified for that "New every 2" upgrade since last month.

Expected Delivery Date:
02/10/2011

I had the original iPhone when they first came out but canceled service after a few months because the service sucked donkey balls ... I thought is was a great EVERYTHING ELSE device ... just a shitty phone on AT&T.

The other day I heard that Verizon cut it down from 30-day to a 14-day return policy ... so, I guess if I'm not excited about it in a week or two after it arrives - I'll just have to get the Droid2/Pro/X or whatever else!

So, anyone else jumping in now that Verizon is carrying them?

SGS 02-03-2011 03:22 AM

Isn't the iPhone 5 out before the summer?

Emil 02-03-2011 03:25 AM

iPhone is gay, Android is teh shiet.

J$tyle$ 02-03-2011 03:28 AM

New phones are coming out pretty much every week or three these days.

I'm waiting on Sprints announcement next for something new I heard about last month. If it's the next gen Blackberry I keep hearing rumors about, I'm likely going pick that up - or upgrade to an Android phone there too.

Sprint is my main mobile carrier and Verizon has been my back-up for about 7 yrs.

I think it will be around July according to some sites, with the unveiling in may.

I always said that too - but not sure now whether to bother.
Can anyone tell me what would make Verizon's iPhone better than the Droid Incredible (which is what I have now)?

SGS 02-03-2011 04:13 AM

My iPhone 4 pays for itself every day (most profitable stills camera I have ever owned in over 30 years) but pretty much every new smartphone would be as hard working now I think.

It's pretty evenly split from what I hear from people regarding what they like and why.

For the past 2 years, since it was a backup phone - I have had an LG EnV on Verizon ... obviously not a smart phone. Just something my kids can always reach me on - or if my battery was dying ... or if I'm in a shitty service area that Sprint doesn't work well in.

I thought about getting the Droid when it came out but just never did. When I heard the iPhone was going to be available I figured I'd give it a shot again .. if i don't like it now, I'll return it and probably get one of the Droids.

I still use a BB as my main phone through Sprint. Battery life is good ... I use it all day on speaker ... and it's great for email/text. However, I really don't take advantage of it as a browser/web device when I'm out - other than email and Facebook. I figure I will way more with the iPhone ... surfing, check stats etc.

Verizon - cant do simultaneous voice and data .... Weak if you ask me.

Yeah - that's my only complaint ... then again it won't be my main phone so i can be on my BB and surf on the iPhone

BareBacked 02-03-2011 12:08 PM

why do you call it a "upgrade" ?

I'm coming from a "lesser" phone and I can't see why someone would "downgrade" ... so upgrade just made sense :winkwink:

name a better phone?

Where the features are better? Put aside call dropping, reception issues..

Rochard 02-03-2011 01:45 PM

I'm with Verizon and I have an Android. I have an Itouch and love it, but I can't stand the damn texting on it. I love my Android and how it has a slide out keyboard - makes texting easy. I'll stick with my Android.

happygirl101 02-03-2011 01:47 PM

I have Iphone 4 and love it.....though not going to go in for a 5...But thinking of splurging on the IPad2 when it comes out...LOL

Evil Chris 02-03-2011 01:48 PM

You won't be able to use your Verizon iPhone outside the USA.

That's the reason I canceled my contract on AT&T years ago.

Like I said before:

"I had the original iPhone when they first came out but canceled service after a few months because the service sucked donkey balls ... I thought is was a great EVERYTHING ELSE device ... just a shitty phone on AT&T."

And since it's going to be my back-up phone I need the phone part to actually function ... which is what I hope will separate it on Verizon from AT&T. If not, I'm getting a Droid :winkwink:

True but that article also says, "Verizon does offer loaner phones with GSM chips in them for global roaming, but not iPhones."

And it does work in Mexistan and Canuckistan

Reason I said to put it aside, was this is supposed to be a non issue on the verizon network, and we honestly won't know for a few weeks right? Once enough people have them and either complain about it or they don't.

Functionality wise, it works better than any other phone I've used. I personally hate at&t but put up with it until I see a phone worth switching to. Also if tons of people switch from at&t, the network might improve a lot!

Yeye new iphone, i must be happy

Gotcha!

In less than 24hrs they are out of stock already ... wonder how many pre-orders there were by existing Verizon subscribers?

Sprints big announcement is that they are adding an additional 10.00 charge for all smartphones (not just 4g ones)

The big selling point to me is that they give unlimited data.

96ukssob 02-03-2011 08:36 PM

Verizon is not your jesus savior... all those people jumping onto their network will for sure have issues

Robbie 02-03-2011 08:40 PM

I really, really gave it some thought. Been on Verizon for years now.

I had the original Droid phone.

But instead I just upgraded to a DroidX. Then I broke it out of jail, installed the Liberty ROM on it, turned it into a FREE wifi hotspot, personalized it in every way I wanted and did all the things that Verizon won't let you do...

And I am very, very happy with my phone now.

The IPhone has always looked pretty cool. And all the people I know that have them love them. But my hacked DroidX kicks it's ass.

I rooted my htc evo and love it as well.

That's still an option for me and if I go that route in a couple weeks I'll be hitting you up to explain exactly how you did that :winkwink:

Why would you want that crap anyway? Get a droid.

Google is my friend. :)

And it took me to the Droid Forums where all was explained in detail enough that even a dumbass like me figured it out.

EDIT: Boozer posted while I was posted and led you to the holy grail.

Follow those instructions to a T and you wont have a issue.

Free wireless hotspot is nice, but I really like the ability to remove all the bloatware.

Profits of Doom 02-04-2011 01:54 AM

I have an AT&T iPhone but I am going to wait a few months and see if Verizon ends up having exactly the same problems on their network when the flood of data starts pounding them. I'm also curious to see if AT&T's network gets any better when so many people end up switching to Verizon. I hate AT&T so much it hurts but I'm going to be cautious until I hear some feedback...
