Update Wordpress Again!!! Phashahrahraaaarghh!!!

Wordpress 3.0.5 is available. Yay.

itto 02-07-2011 06:03 PM

IMHO, all this shit is gettin' ridiculous.. i mean.. X.0.1, X.0.2, X.0.3, X.0.X.. WP is really cool and all, but please make sure your fuckin' software works before releasing a new version.

Great, just updated to 3.0.4 on a hundred blogs...

itto 02-07-2011 06:24 PM

from their site:
"WordPress 3.0.5 (and 3.1 Release Candidate 4)
Three point oh point five Enhances security Three point one comes soon"

DWB 02-07-2011 06:53 PM

Fucking shit.

harvey 02-07-2011 07:07 PM

errrr..... are you guys aware you can wait until next version is released, or even forget about updating? Just check what they've added/fixed, and if you need it, upgrade. Otherwise, forget it. In my case, I don't see anything important, so no upgrade here. Seriously, there's a reason why they add a detail of the new version changes :2 cents:

CYF 02-07-2011 07:17 PM

just upgraded, thanks.

Miguel T 02-07-2011 07:52 PM

Updating my blogs.
Good thing the one-click feature ! ;)

That's not the point, Harcey. I love WP, use it on dozens of sites. It would be nice if they just sat down and made one stable version sometime during the six years I've been using it, though.

These "upgrade" notices are annoying.

I understand, but there's a misconception here: WP is and have always been indeed stable, the patches usually are just over-jealous people writing fixes for extremely weird situations and scenarios. In general, you should upgrade 3.0 to 3.1, but 3.0.x to 3.0.x+1 aren't really needed, just small fixes that will prevent issues that won't affect 99.99% of people.

The above being said, if the reminders are annoying for you, just use http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...s-core-update/ and voilá, no more reminders :2 cents:

Markul 02-08-2011 02:38 AM

Use auto-update and only update when needed. IMO :)

You're not the average user.

Them frequently updating makes 150% sense from WP's point of view. It's all business and trust building on their end.

how do you switch on auto update?

I guess the other solution is to host all your blogs off the one wp installation, which is possible now.

It's not a 100% auto, but there is a plugin that'll do most for you in a few clicks:

TheDA 02-08-2011 03:16 AM

Automate it as much as possible. Makes updating multiple blogs easier.

And how do you propose doing that?

Emil 02-08-2011 03:41 AM

I'm going to make a application that will login and update wordpress + plugins because this takes too much time!

Do tell.

I know there has to be some application that will let me do what I want, which is control all my blogs from a central point. They all run WP, and I can't be the only person in the world who would like to do that.

It's built into the new versions of wordpress, check the site for more info (I believe its domain mapping you'll want to look into.)

Thank you sweetheart! I will check that out with my morning oatmeal.

Much appreciated!!!!

I wish other programs would update security holes just as much. WordPress is constantly improving and becoming a robust CMS.

Don't get left behind.

wehateporn 02-08-2011 08:32 AM

I'll wait for a few hundred thousand guinea pigs to update first, then if there's a problem when I update I'll be able to Google a quick resolution on a forum. These updates have broke my site a few times, but fortunately normally just for a few minutes thanks to a random useful forum

Usually problems with a WordPress site can be traced back to a plugin, theme or custom program you have done.

combson 02-08-2011 10:18 AM

You don't have to update every time...Just pack it with good plugins, and let it stay and make the sales...When you install new batch of blogs use new versions of the core and plugins and you are totally safe!

Has always been the case, very true!

Not that I'm complaining, I think Wordpress is great!
