Bing's scraping of Google results PAYING OFF?

Whatever Bing's doing seems to be paying off. Check out the growth rates for both internal searches and syndicated searches.

Some of my adsense / clickbank blogs do way better off Bing traffic than Google.

Go Bing Go! MSFT still bleeding cash on online projects though (except XBL which is accounted separately)

slavdogg 02-08-2011 06:19 PM

everyone should change their exit links from google to bing.

Tasty1 02-08-2011 06:25 PM

Google is slow cause previews of websites keeps loading.
If you go with your mouse over a link, the preview is dispalyed.
That made me use Bing more often.

BVF 02-08-2011 07:46 PM

Except for when it first came out...I never use Bing...I have a google app on my phone where all I have to do is talk into it and it searches for me....However for my own traffic:

google (organic) 50.33%
(direct) ((none)) 24.98%
yahoo (organic) 10.92%
bing (organic) 6.87%

They've also got themselves plugged into apps now. At the end of the new Angry Birds app there's a button/link thing that searches "angry birds golden eggs" on bing

Young 02-09-2011 12:22 AM

considering all of the money Microsoft is pouring into Bing it's amazing that they just couldn't hire away from Google and/or Facebook. But then again it's probably all about the culture of Microsoft vs those companies.

Steve Balmer isn't exactly cool.

raymor 07-15-2011 01:10 AM

When you start work basically zero traffic and pay companies millions to force Bing on people, you better get growth. If traffic had stayed the same they would have been paying like $20 per click.

Check out the definition of the word bing at dictionary.com

If they've got nearly 1/3rd of the searches versus google's 2/3rds market share, why aren't they sending at least half the traffic that google is?

On one of my sites...

bing.com: 760
yahoo.com: 511
google.com: 21668

Bing is referring (directly or indirectly) about 6% of the traffic that Google is.

and the quality of their results keeps decreasing...

Last night I did a google search for something related to hunting rights in the Netherlands. A 3 word query.

The top 5 results contained none of the words I did a search for. In fact, the top 5 results were totally unrelated.

One of the words in my query was "pacht" (a kind of rental contract), but Google in its wisdom instead displayed results for the word "patch" and ignored the other 2 words in the query.

All 3 words in my query were in Dutch. In fact they don't exist in English. Yet the top 5 results were in English and totally unrelated.

Google's result are becoming less relevant each day...

dynastoned 07-15-2011 03:39 AM

bing looks like a cheap fucking domain parking page

The nfpr=1 variable for Google search will give you results for your exact query, instead of what they think you want to search.

If you use FireFox, try this.

type about:config into address bar
filter for keyword.URL
If it exists, double click entry and change value to http://google.com/search?nfpr=1&q=
if it doesn't exist, right click anywhere in the window, select New >> String and add value http://google.com/search?nfpr=1&q=

Must be all that product placement in TV- programs and movies

I don't think that was his point. :error

I've seen some utterly stupid things on regional google too, like maps suggesting that I want "Brooklyn NY USA" when I type in "Brooklyn" - I live in Australia, I'm using Google Maps Australia, d'ya reckon I want to travel to Brooklyn NY USA? NO! I was more interested in the suburb 10km away with the same name. Hurrrrrrr

rowan 07-15-2011 06:47 AM

I was just hunting for more information about a track and artist... like who he is, what other tracks he has, whether he's on a particular brand of compilation CD that I buy.

First page shows a few youtube URLs, a bunch of fake download sites, a couple of streaming music sites.

Second page has some of those URLs duped (????) along with more fake download crap.

Third page has more dupes again (why are you showing me the same URLs 3 times?) and finally near the bottom there's a link to the twitter feed for the artist. From his twitter I managed to find his myspace page. No idea how much further down in the SERPs that is.

I had to wade through 2 pages of crap results and then do further detective work just to find his page...

96ukssob 07-15-2011 09:03 AM

ive actually been getting some better results on bing then google. im fucking site of seeing links for about.com or answer.com when I'm searching for shit on Google

Agent 488 07-15-2011 09:20 AM

bing traffic is so tiny so who cares? bing results are crap as well.

Why 07-15-2011 11:43 AM

i too an finding bings results to be more relevant then google's.

i think google is being gamed too much by blackhat SEO guys that just target every term with more then a few searches a day, then they make crappy spammy adsense(or other network) sites that have no value. if you have the time and knowledge, testing googles algo is rather easy. blackhats would game bing just the same if it had enough traffic.

Why 07-15-2011 11:44 AM

pretty soon SEOs will be the bane of the internet like email spammers were a few years ago. clogging up the SERPS with so much crap we all have to wade through... google should have "please dont show me results from this domain" feature.

PornStarToys 07-15-2011 11:47 AM

That's cool. Bing still sucks.

Bing has a phone app too. I love it. Just say Starbucks and bang, I see the closest 5 locations.:thumbsup

FlowerKid 07-16-2011 01:32 AM

Shut down those search engines and return to share link lists like in the good old days. ;-)

I don't think the blackhat seo's have anything to do with this. The problem is Google's attitude. They think they know better than the end-user and display results for what they think the user intended to search for instead of what the user actually searched for.
