Are people buying middle men?

Are people going to be spending money buying a copy of the DVD or whatever and I guess lining mallicks pocket in one way or another?

Just curious. . . .

DEA - banned for life 02-09-2011 07:24 AM

i dont think Mallick will make dime 1 from the middle men DVD.

Do people still buy shitty movies on dvd? why bother..in case you want to watch a shitty movie again? Fuck its probably hard enoug to sell good movies on DVD these days.

plus that movie has yet to make a profit...until they atleast break even ..no profit is made...he most likley wont even get a dollar "his" 30mil + investment back for the production of middle men and columbus circle .wich is even a worse film that looks so fuckng slow it was maded to help you fall asleep !!

Chris Mallick interview
http://thefilmstage.com/2010/08/09/i...es-middle-men/

What was the biggest challenge you faced in making this film?

CM: I guess the biggest challenge was getting passed the idea that this was an indie film which means we’re probably not gonna get paid or talking to the agencies and saying we want Luke Wilson for this movie. We sent him a script. They loved the script, they hated the idea that it was an indie film even though Luke has done a lot of independent. They hated it because indie filmmakers have a bad reputation in Hollywood. You got people who say they’re gonna do something and they don’t. They contract for things and don’t perform. They get people on set and then can’t pay payroll. And so I addressed that after talking with CAA and I said it seems to me the way to take the guessing out of the game, is to just give you the money. And so what we did was every actor we hired we escrowed their full fee on the day that we made an offer and we said, ‘Here it is,’ so A) It’s real and B) It’s within your control. If your client likes this, we want to make the deal and you can see the money is there and that seemed to take a lot of the guesswork out of it, that seemed to take away the parts that were the most difficult in the production. But other than that, once we got past that and got a great reputation of paying and performing and doing what we said, the rest of it was kinda cake actually.

Barefootsies 02-09-2011 07:30 AM

Based on the numbers, it probably will not make a profit for a number of years.

After DVD, HBO and all the rest have been recouped.

Why? Really, outside of this industry, no one knows and frankly no one will care. Maybe some from this industry will boycott, but will average Joe Public give a shit? nope.

Which would be why the movie grossed about $700k in the theatres.

CYF 02-09-2011 04:55 PM

I won't buy a copy, but it's in my netflix queue.

The movie had shitty grosses because it looks horrible...it's not because a bunch of people said "I heard the producer fucked over a couple people...we should avoid this movie like the plague!"

It's lack of success had nothing to do with boycotts or anyone else giving a shit about epassporte. Go to your local store and see how many DVDs they are selling....one of our local walmart's seemed to be moving a lot of copies...

Jakez 02-09-2011 05:36 PM

I don't know but the webmasters who got royally fucked over sure love to make threads about it/him and give him more attention.

bloggerz 02-09-2011 05:43 PM

No i wouldn't buy it and add to the money he already got me for

nikki99 02-09-2011 07:34 PM

I donīt.........

facialfreak 02-09-2011 08:10 PM

I'm gonna try to put it on my epassporte card at Walmart ...

Video to follow ..........

isnt that the reason the movie flopped in the first place?:1orglaugh

Obviously Joe Puiblic didnt give to 2 shits and a red squirrells ass about middle men. Nothing has been said about that movie since its came out last august....except on porn message boards...the average american doesnt even know that fucking film exists.:2 cents:

MrBottomTooth 02-09-2011 08:27 PM

I literally can't even be bothered to pirate it. Couldn't think of a more boring premise, except for maybe a movie about facebook.

H-Tom 02-10-2011 03:14 AM

The film grossed only $733,000 at the box office during its three-week run. The budget was $20 million.

blonda80 02-10-2011 05:42 AM

I wouldn`t buy it even if I would be paid to do it.

Thats a bad day at the office right there!

Kiopa_Matt 02-10-2011 06:31 AM

Almost nobody is going to buy the DVD. The only people who care about watching the movie are those on this board, and guaranteed, not a single person here is going to dish out $20 for Chris Mallick. We've all already downloaded our free copies off the torrents, and nobody else in the world gives a shit about seeing it, much less buying it.

More than likely, the DVD will get the same reaction as the movie theaters gave it. Store owners will just tell their staff, "This piece of shit movie is taking up valuable shelf space. Get rid of it!"

HomerSimpson 02-10-2011 07:57 AM

I'm not buyin' it!

Two things go into making a movie.

1) You obviously have to make the movie.

2) You still need a budget of a few million to promote said movie.

Chris got ahead of himself and put all of his chips on making the movie. When it came time for promotion, the money was gone.

The sad part is that he worked in this industry and should have known better. If you don't have your own traffic what is the point of building a paysite? You need to have a steady influx of traffic. So if he didn't have a plan of attack on promotion then he is an idiot. He could have used indie channels like social media and the like. Then paid the nominal fee to have Luke or all three actors on the late night talk shows.

As far as I can tell he figured it'd just sell itself.

D-Money 02-10-2011 04:46 PM

I rented it.

It wasn't bad.

I spoke to the guy who owns the video store about why it didn't do so well, he had a very simple and good point.

"It's a movie about porn, so you can't take a date/girlfriend or wife and you can't take the family."

That's most of the movie theater audience. Even if it was the greatest movie ever, it wouldn't do that well.

Boogie Nights managed to bring in over 43 million world wide way back in 1997.

Good example, but that's just 1. It's not the norm.

Agent 488 02-10-2011 05:08 PM

could have you taken your family to "saw'?

middle men simply sucked. bad to tepid reviews. it died because no one wanted to see it. simple.
