Hitler was Time magazine's Man of the year

In 1938. Bet they wish they could take that one back, eh.

He should have been man of the century at the end of the 20th century. There is no requirement that the man of the year/century must be known for something good. I can't think of anyone who had more of an impact on 20th century history than Hitler.

Death at a funeral, eh? Mind you, the original UK version was way funnier imo.

I was man of the year in 2006.

Your off on this report by a few decades.

We look at Hilter as one of the most evil men who ever lived; He is responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of people. However, in 1938 he was the leader of Germany, taking a country from ruin to being a worldwide economic and military leader, turning Germany around, and giving back pride to the German people.

lagcam 02-10-2011 06:18 PM

Problem was that in those days there was no Twitter or Facebook so nobody knew what he spent his time doing all day.

i thought he was man of the year twice.

Do not forget that many countries suported him including the usa, untill japan attacted perl harbor.

During ww2 most banks and firms still traded with germany.

Coca cola created fanta so they could sell it in germany as they knew selling cola would look bad, yet at the same time selling cola to the usa making out they suported usa.

Remember that brazill took many nazies and a comunity was set up.

In fact a certain dr 'angel of death' carried on his experiments till he died in the 80-'s (dr mengler) and there is a comunity in Brazill were most are now twins, with blue eyes.

Do not forget the cia took all the medical reaserch that they did on jews, and its belived the results were used to help develop medication and so on in the usa.

Hitler and the Nazis also had strategic alliances during the war with Henry Ford and IBM.

Ford continued to actively run truck/military plants for almost a year after Pearl Harbor. IBM was the driving force behind the massive documentation the Germans were famous for. The list goes on .........

A lot of companies continued doing business with both sides. Henry Ford pretty much was a Nazi.

Some people would be stunned at what companies did what during WWII. Thousands of Americans died in labor camps in Japan working for Mitsubishi making airplanes. Saab also made airplanes (although for the Allies).

adult-help 02-10-2011 08:54 PM

why would they take it back? The title man of the year was never meant to be only positive but of one who made the most impact..

L-Pink 02-10-2011 09:12 PM

I think this is the actual Time cover ...

The cover depicted Hitler playing ?his hymn of hate in a desecrated cathedral while victims dangle on a St. Catherine's wheel and the Nazi hierarchy looks on.?

And there's also Mao. For whatever reason, everyone tends to think of Hitler as the worst, even though his numbers aren't the "best." I wonder how many different places people will be killed by the millions over this next century. :Oh crap

scubadiver626 02-12-2011 07:41 PM

He would have led them into the Abyss even without the drugs.

There are many excellent quotations attributed to Hitler, although I suspect many of them came more from Goebbels, as he was the real mind behind the social engineering. His understanding of the group psychology was amazing. It's a shame it was used in the way it was, though, of course...

The way the nazi's built, spread and maintained their message is extremely impressive. As despicable as they were, their propaganda was so expertly crafted, it is genius. It's easy to see how people got sucked in, and how it still draws and attracts people today. Everything they did visually drips power and masculinity. It's a shame they used it for such evil.

From the "theatre" of Hitlers speeches to their uniforms your description is perfect.

I bought a copy of that off ebay about 10 years ago for an asshole friend's birthday. I wish I would have kept it instead.

Also, Time totally pussied out after 9/11. Clearly it should have been Bin Laden and NOT Rudy.
