Seriously... FUCK the NY DMV!!!

I'm so fucking furious right now with this morons that work at the DMV. New York state has some retarded ass rules in order to buy a car from someone and take it to another state.

I've followed each one of them, including having to buy NEW insurance because my current insurance provider, the policy expires in 20 days but automatically renews but the DMV says they need one that states its good for 30 days.

So yesterday I pick up new insurance JUST for this car. They fax over all the docs to the DMV. After being on the phone with them now for over 30 minutes, they tell me they can't take it because it does not have some FUCKING BARCODE???? No where on their website, or anyone I talked to said anything about a barcode. My agent says that does not exist, but the DMV says they will not issue me temp tags to drive it back to PA.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK! :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I rented a car and drove here last night, over a 5 hour drive. Confirmed everything with those fucking morons FIRST before walking out the door then they surprise me with THIS???

I am so livid right now with this fucking state. What is your problem New York??

In lieu of this not being a smooth transaction, I bought my license plate from my car with me (PA registered plate). Think it would be possible to just take the title, slap on the plate and head down to PA and register it?

NOTHING will happen if you don't get pulled over for a traffic violation. Just make sure your present insurance company is notified of the new car and drive it safely home :2 cents:

CyberHustler 02-10-2011 08:39 AM

We just want your money... I guarantee everything will go much more smooth for you if you offer some money to the right person...

Sly 02-10-2011 08:40 AM

You should have had it delivered instead, there is no way I would have bought additional insurance for some stupid ass New York law. DMV, always awesome folk. Gotta luv gubment werkers.

A few years back I was getting a passport... I had it expedited. It didn't come, didn't come. I called daily. Kept getting the same stupid response. "It will be sent shortly." Infuriating how little accountability there is. Nobody knows anything, nobody is responsible for anything, nobody cares.

Thats the thing... the NY DMV is telling me I can NOT take the vehicle out of state without one of these transit plates. If I do, the PA DMV will not be able to register the car. I have the title IN HAND that is from DMV

How do they know this guy didn't come to PA to sell me the car?

I called the PA DMV, as bright as these inbreed asshats are, their response "as long as you have the title and insurance... uh, I think it should be fine. you will have to come in to talk to someone I think" WTF?

your state needs to get their shit together. fuck, even California is easier to deal with :1orglaugh

woj 02-10-2011 09:06 AM

one upside is at least you have a title for the car, often deals with people in different states turn out to be a scam....

candyflip 02-10-2011 09:09 AM

Why not just get a UHaul auto trailer and tow it back to PA?

Tom_PM 02-10-2011 09:20 AM

Yep, the NY DMV sucks ass and always has. The ONLY time I never had a problem was when I used the one in Endicott, NY. That DMV is a tiny one, and across the hallway is an Allstate insurance agent. So whenever I had some insurance issue, I could go across the hallway and get whatever the fuck else they decide they want. It's as if they exist to annoy.

because I need to rent one of those that the car sits in, its an AWD and can't be towed on 2 wheels. plus the price of that was more than a plane ticket.

I got a hold of someone from the PA DMV, all I would need to do is just get the car to PA and get it registered there. Simple.. title, ins card, id and vin number plus $13.50. Worst case is I have this guy drive there if I dont use my old plate and make a mid night run back haha.

I called my new insurance company and bitched and FINALLY on the phone with someone that sounds like they can help out. Hes having a doc manually created and will be sent to their office in an hour. If that doesn't work, fuck them, I'm just driving the car back to PA

Find a young buck at the counter , go up and Slip a $100 bill under your paperwork then hand the stuff to him and say "hook it up"

hehheeh

SmokeyTheBear 02-10-2011 10:54 AM

drive at rush hour, cops hate traffic too

LiveDose 02-10-2011 11:22 AM

It's not just NY DMV. Government employees are about as lazy and stupid as they come. I have been fighting with the tax office here about a car we sold over 6 months ago. The idiots at the two county offices can't find the car in the system. Though myself and the new owner keep getting tax bills. Fucking silly.

I absolutely HATE dealing with government employees. All of them are complete idiots, they have no clue about problem solving.

Good luck getting this sorted out!

next time get a temp transfer from your own states DMV

epitome 02-10-2011 09:49 PM

At least you can register a car.

My state now has me pegged at $4,600 due because they said I did not turn in tags a few years ago.

I did. Two moves later, I cannot find that tiny receipt they give you for turning in tags.

I just registered my car in my boyfriends name. I'm fucked if we get into an explosive fight and breakup.

I'm gonna tell your boyfriend that we fucked last weekend.

CYF 02-10-2011 10:48 PM

just drive the damn car.

Sid70 02-11-2011 01:36 AM

Regulations suck. Life is miserable. I just had those 2 days arguing here and there in a similar manner. I wish I was less short tempered and much more wise to get it calmly and solve it all accordingly. Now, I am dissappointed in myself.

Another typical example of American bureaucracy and not just NY DMV, its nationwide. Bureaucrats abusing the shit out of the backbone of there existence, ?We the People?.

See what?s going on in Egypt, how long before it happens here in the good ole US of A?

Wasn?t there a thread not long ago about what a great country America is?

uno 02-11-2011 03:27 AM

DMV's (now named MVC) in jersey have improved incredibly over the past 10 years, imo.

SomeCreep 02-11-2011 03:31 AM

The DMV is slow, inefficient, and inflexible. Once you accept that, it's not so bad.

newB 02-11-2011 07:48 AM

There are tighter restrictions for buying a car in another state these days due to some people buying cars that have been written off as totaled in the original state, re-titling them, and then selling them with the clean title without disclosing their being totaled. This was a big problem in the aftermath of Katrina.

That being said, I have had nothing but frustration when dealing with the DMV when paperwork was required. You call and ask what you need to have and they tell you A, B, and C, then when you get there the person at the counter says you need some other item you were never told about.

Keep your cool; generally people will be more patient and make sure to cover everything with someone who is polite, where the ranting maniac they just want to leave as soon as possible and be someone else's problem when they return - without the proper documents once again, more than likely.

Barry-xlovecam 02-11-2011 08:11 AM

Tell the asswipes at the NY DMV that you will take your business to their competitor ...

Oh wait, they are the government — they have no competitor in NY state ...

carzygirls 02-11-2011 08:54 AM

Are you on the road yet? Take it to philly to register the car... if you have all the docs they should process you thru as fast as possible.
