What web skills are needed to be a webmaster?

Hi, I'm new here. I've spent the last week or so just lurking, reading a lot of the educational articles and absorbing a lot of information.

Anyways, I've been thinking about starting an adult website - possibly a TGP to start with? I don't really know where the best place for a total newbie is to begin? But I was wondering what web skills are needed to run an adult website?

I'm proficient with Photoshop, used FTP a few times to transfer files to someone, and lately I've been learning HTML and CSS by using online tutorials. I can recognize and understand a lot of it when I see it, but I don't feel too confident in my ability to work with a huge glob of HTML without royally screwing something up.

Besides those above, what other software or coding should I learn and at what level do I need to know them?

Learn Dreamweaver. The best tutes around are those which are put out by VTC.com (Virtual Training Company) - their online university is the best value. Then practice, practice and more practice. I've been building websites since 1996 and that's how I did it. And of course a lot of mistakes made along the way. I also use the Adobe CS5 Master Collection which has everything needed to create what I need. Good luck mate :thumbsup

You've got enough already to get started, you'll be able to learn anything you need as you go. Most important thing is to get stuck into it

The most important skill you need for this crusade is to be cleaver enough to successfully compete with thousands of other greedy, sneaky, canny dudes with big wallets for promotion and development, not even mentioning about even x more of newbie and amateur webmasters that badly want to bite this cake as well. So, good marketing skills are very important.

And of course some basic gfx, html, css styling, javascript, php, mysql, apache skill would be helpful too.

Why do you need to know HTML, CSS and php ? You want be a webmaster not a fucking programmer. Let the programmers to learn programming languages you need to sell porn, and the real question is how are you going to sell it.
