DO YOU BELIEVE ANIMALS CAN CHOOSE THEIR OWNERS?

I was talking to my neighbor and a cat that looks freakishly like my previous cat that died walked up to me, rubbed my ankles and waltzed right in to my condo... The neighbor told me that he was normally skiddish and believed he was homeless [I just moved here a week ago, so I didn't know]

I decided to let him hang out for a bit and the cat sat right next to me, followed me everywhere I went. Keep in mind I don't have a litter box or anything and he jumped up and went in to the bathroom and pissed in the sink. {YES I disinfected it}.. he could have gone anywhere..

I put him outside and he cried for 20 minutes to come back in, so here I am with this cat wrapped around my foot.

Would you keep him? [if you were a cat lover]

Remember he looks identical to Cleo, who died in 2009 and I've felt so much guilt over it because I wasn't around much those last few months. She was well taken care of, but I was traveling a LOT.

Yeah of course, especially if you have no cat at all now since your previous pet died. He/she obviously used to have a home and is accustomed to being around people so you should give him or her a loving home.

My cats love the shit outta me... I think they pick you totally.. One cat chose me right away when I brought him home since he was a kitten waking up from his neutering.. The other one has just come around recently to be extremely affectionate.. I think it was when I helped him when he got some tape stuck to his fir and I slowly got it off.. He knew I was trying to help him.. He likes my fiance more than he likes me.. So I think that cats really do pick and choose.. Its not just opportunity..

Yes, but a cat that friendly and well behaved must have belonged to somebody. I would put an ad in the local paper (ads for found animals are usually free) and maybe some flyers in the windows of local businesses. Give it three weeks - resist the temptation to name him/her - after that, consider him/her yours.

True, I will place an ad. The people next door said the cat has been hanging around here for the last few months. The cat is HUGE... it's a big boned cat, but it's either really fat or preggers. Is there a way to tell if a cat is carrying kittens? The neighbor also told me that everyone feeds her but she won't get close to anyone so I find it so weird that it was all over me like white on rice.

I think I called her a "him" before... It's a definately a girl. Looks like a pure breed Russian Blue. My neighbor thinks it MAY have belonged to an elderly lady that died a couple months ago when the cat started hanging out. My complex has 10 buildings and 7 are for 55 and over, so that is a distinct possibility.

My cat totally chose me. I was at a farm, and this little 8 week old kitten SCREAMED through the fence at me, pawed and pawed at looked directly at me. "Pick me, Pick me, Pick me" she yelled. The homeowner was "Well you can take her if you want".

15 minutes later she was in my car on the way to my house. She is the apple of my eye.

If they have the opportunity to do so, cats always pick their people.
But only the smart people realize that it's happening.

Generally, a pregnant cat will be big in the belly, but not too heavy - not heavy like a big male. Also, the cat's nipples will become more pronounced - in length and thickness.

Also, you might consider taking the cat to the nearest vet and see if they either a) recognize her as a patient, or b) can scan her for a micro-ID tag.

I would keep her if no one clams her.

Allow me to be the voice of reason. Of course you will feel all noble and shit giving the cat a home, thinking you have good karma for it, etc, but this really isn't the case. The cat will be ungreatful and destroy your home.

I took in a stray before. A vet found a small stray kitten and nursed it back to health, and I adopted it.
- It would refuse to eat dry food. If I put dry food, it gave me a look as if I shit in its food bowl. Wet food only.
- It pissed all over the house
- It scratched everything
- It wouldn't let anyone pet it
- It went into a suitcase full of cloths evidently thinking that was its litter box
- It shit everywhere
- It generally acted like a fucking wild animal.

This was the thanks I got for taking in the stray. Me, a human, the dominant species on the planet, had to live in cat piss and cat shit. Thank fucking god it ran away.

Before anyone says oh i didn't train it properly, I now have a purebred siamese, which hasn't destroyed a single piece of furniture, eats whatever i put in his bowl, and the thought of pissing or shitting anywhere outside of his litter box has not even crossed his mind. He comes inside to use his litter box when he's outdoors.

I don't want to sound heartless but take that thing to the pound, otherwise you might just find yourself cleaning up cat piss and shit off your cloths and furniture because thats what the cat will think you are there for. You can't give up your quality of life and standard of living because some animal decided to waltz in.

I had two cats choose me. My first one was a homeless cat, who i heard meowing from somewhere i couldnt see - he came running up to me, and when we picked him up he just started purring all the way home.

My second one, i found in a garage which is known to have feral cats. I heard it meow, then a little kitten stuck his head out - Again we picked him up and he was purring all the way home.

Keep it and give him a good home :)

I would definitely keep her if her owner doesn't claim her. I believe she chose you as her new owner.

Cats are awesome and of course they can pick their owners.

Cats have lots of personality. When you first meet a cat to adopt at a pet shop, shelter or spca alot of what you may like in a particular cat is the way they like you. You go for the one who looks you and purrs and is relaxed in your arms and the only way they can do this is if they like you first.

Definitely adopt your new stray friend.

You've got it all wrong.

A cat will avoid its litter box for several reasons. It has to be very clean of course, but what alot people miss is that they cat may be sick.

Cats can have urinary tract infections, kidney problems, crystals in its urine etc which cause it to have pain when he or she pees. It associates the pain with the litter box and then decides to go somewhere else.

Cats can also have problems with his or her anal glands. The glands normally secrete scent marking oils but they can easily get plugged up causing pain and discomfort which again makes cats avoid their litter box.

Both conditions are easily diagnosed and treated by a vet.

That would be all fine and reasonable, but he would use his litter box 3/4ths of the time so I don't think that was the case. The problem was that he wasn't using his litter box exclusively for those purposes.

I brought home a cat for my wife a year or so ago.I am allergic to cats but she wanted one so there I go.This cat we named Lala has destroyed every fucking thing in the house.
I never pet her or hold her because I am allergic,but she prefers my company above anyone else in the household for some reason.I think she just knows I saved her.The cat has chose you now so you better keep it.
She has allowed me to live in her house,so it's good now..lol

Yeah, cats choose often choose you rather than the other way around. Even my little gray guy that I pulled out of a hedge when he was a six week old, broken legged stray, had spent 30 minutes meowing at me to get my attention.
