Who are the real metalheads on GFY?
 

I know there are a lot of metalheads on GFY. I am a HUGE metal guy, some of my favorites are (in no particular order):

Ones you may know: Slayer, old Metallica, Carnivore, SOD, Black Sabbath (up to Born Again), Anthrax, Celtic Frost, Clutch, System of A Down, Pantera, Down, Kreator, Dark Angel, Municipal Waste, DRI, Mastodon, Moterhead, Sepultura / Souldfly, Obituary, Snot, Exodus

Lesser known bands I always thought should have been bigger: Holy Terror, Wargasm, Whiplash, Sacrifice, Exhorder, Sadus, and Dream Death

I'm quite the metal head.. you didn't mention a band I don't like. ;)

I've been on quite the Swedish death metal kick the past couple of months, but not a day goes by without throwing on some Pantera.

I like a lot of the bands you mentioned above. However, I've been really getting into the more melodic/symphonic stuff like Rhapsody lately. Oh, and I'm going to see Motorhead/Clutch/Valiant Thorr next month. Woo!

Just scanning this thread I should have included Gojira and Bathory in my original list. I like the European metal quite a bit.

All these are glam to me. Not my thing.

Krokus is just a poor man's AC/DC. "Long Stick Goes Boom" is kinda funny, but I don't think they intended it to be!

I saw Municipal Waste a little over a year ago. Fuck was that an awesome night. Oldschool is the only way to go. :thumbsup

I'll fully agree with you on Wargasm. They got a great sound, really like their shit.

Yeah, Wargasm was awesome. They could have been in the Big 5 if there was one.

mastodon is a good new metal band. But yeah i'm into all those bands too

St. Vitus - I forgot about them. We played a show with Wino one time, barely anyone came out. :Oh crap

I'm not a huge fan of any of the bands listed so far (I also don't DISLIKE any of them either) but I do go for the heavier style of stuff. There are so many damn classifications when it comes to this stuff, I have no idea what the technical term(s) are for it, but here are some of my favs as of late:

I have followed the career of RJD from way back in the days of Ronnie and the Prophets, and let's not forget ELF (the band which he took his nickname from ...), Rainbow, Black Sabbath (later re-named Heaven And Hell), and of course a solo career that far outdid Ozzy's ....

I LOVE DIO - Heaven and Hell is one of my favorite albums of all time and is even better than a lot of the previous albums Sabbath did with Ozzy. I guess that is why I just figured Dio had already made my list.

We played with a Cowboy at a metalfest on the East Coast.

I liked 6 feet under a lot more when Alan West was in the band. I love that Obituary riffs.

Even though I consider them more of a punk band, I am a fan...we did a radio interview with them 10 years ago or so and talked about us going up to Canada and them coming to the USA on a co-heading tour, but members of both bands had criminal records and weren't allowed in either country.

And each one of those had a new cd out come out not long ago. Ratt - 2010, Krokus - 2010 and Helix - 2009 and have another one coming out sometime this year.

Really they were a punk band, but Here Today, Guano Tomorrow was thrash/metal all the way through. Had a little different sound from the rest of what they've done.

I can't believe I forgot Pestilence. Consuming Impulse if one of my favorite metal albums ever. They should actually be first on my list of obscure bands that never made it bigtime.

Possessed is also great. Their guitar player is in Primus now.

Iron Maiden should have made the cut! Early DiAnno fuckin rocked, even Bruce in the early years could rip!
