Your Server Configuration and Starter Server Recommendation

Hello Everyone,

What is your server configuration? Specifically, how much RAM does your dedicated/cloud/vps server have? As a beginner, I'm searching for cheap hosting, and I've found several reasonably priced. But with their price, comes either 256MB or 512MB of RAM and 200GB to 250GB of bandwidth.

For starters, I was thinking that my dedicated server would run on Ubuntu or CentOS with MySQL and Apache using either Perl or PHP to cobble everything together. I'm thinking my first project will be an affiliate site and trading traffic with others wherein the server will host predominantly text links to other sites and minimally (if not never) house graphics and videos.

What do you guys think? Am I misguided? Is the bandwidth skinny? I am a noob to the business. Thank you for reading this far and your consideration.

Egon

Try to go with a hosting company that has a scaleable option so that you can start low and increase resources once you know what your traffic is like.

Our servers have quite a bit of ram..bandwidth..disk space..etc.

Since your still so new to the game you may even wanna consider a VPS or Hybrid VPS..This would still give you root access and all the features of a dedi at a fraction of the cost. Since your site is brand new I would think anything in the 25-50GB disk space and 100GB+ bandwidth should be good.

If you are looking for a starter dedicated server, I will be happy to offer you one of our specials. We can set you up on a dedi for as little as $79 per month including 2gb ram and 3000 gigs of bandwidth. Plenty for you to grow in. Let me know, my info is in my sig.

Egon,

RAM is not the only item to consider when setting up your VPS, Cloud, or Dedicated Server.
You would be wise to find a host that can grow with you, and can manage your hardware for you. A default install of the OS, Applications is just that a default settup.

If your still looking, I can offer you the following.

VPS
OpenVZ Virtualization
25 GB's HD Space
1GB RAM
4 x 2.9GHz Core ( Min 2GHz )
1 Dedicated IP
1000Mbit Uplink
10TB's Bandwidth
cPanel/WHM
Fully Managed
Instant Setup
$29.95/Month

Thank you,
Anthony

I'd probably start out with a VPS with 1gb ram at this point, and you can grow your hosting as your business and websites grow. See my sig for hosting coupons :thumbsup
