Got a favorite old black and white movie?

Yesterday I watched Sargent York for about the 20th time, love that movie, always wondered how close to the truth is was.

The Gay Divorcee with Fred Astaire. Back when gay meant carefree.

I love how Fred never gives up chasing Ginger Rogers. Always positive. which today, would mean psycho stalker.

Several, but a lot of them were since colorized, and I must say for a lot of them I honestly preferred the B&W version.

Some favorites are:

Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939)
Creature fr the Black Lagoon (1954)
Raging Bull (1980)
Invasion of the bodysnatchers (1956)
Roman Holiday (1953) (love Audrey Hepburn)

That's a few. Too many to list really.

From all accounts I've read and heard Sergeant York was quite accurate.

HandballJim 02-20-2011 09:34 PM

Night of the Living Dead, and Abbott and Costello movies

Seth Manson 02-20-2011 10:01 PM

Vendzilla 02-21-2011 10:30 AM

I made the kids sit down and watch the 3 stooges, they thought is was a punishment at first, then they laughed their asses off!

J. Falcon 02-21-2011 10:53 AM

Mine would have to be Paths of Glory.

SykkBoy 02-21-2011 10:56 AM

so many, especially all the classic universal monster movies: Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, The Wolfman, etc.
on top of the list would probably be Nasferatu or Freaks....although Cabinet of Dr. Caligari would have to be up there as well...and Spiderbaby...ugh, so many choices...kind of like picking a favorite child...

A plenty,

to name a few from the top of my head:

The Maltese Falcon
Citizen Kane
It's a Wonderful Life
12 Angry Men
Someone up there likes me
Paths of Glory
The Hill
Hud

Lots of older Hitchcock movies on the list too, also have a collection of classic comedies, and plenty of older French movies for those I developed interest as I used to watch them as a small kid way back when there was only the government controlled TV available (by 1994).

Sergeant York and Sunset Boulevard are on my "must see" list yet

Coup 02-21-2011 07:33 PM
